We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Full Stack Lead AI Engineer for our IT & Digital department. This position can be located in Waltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY or Syracuse, NY (candidates may also reside in either Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine or the UK). Job Purpose

As a Full Stack Lead AI Engineer on the National Grid Data Science team, you will work with the team to help design, build, and maintain National Grid's enterprise AI platform to help National Grid accelerate its AI capability.

In addition, depending on team needs, you are also expected to develop data pipelines, take prototype models to production, fix production bugs, monitor operations, and provision infrastructure in Azure.

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist with designing the enterprise AI platform
  • Build and maintain the AI platform
  • Lead Machine Learning and AI projects end-to-end
  • Develop platform tooling (e.g., internal conda library, CLI tool for project setup, and internal terraform package etc.) for the Data Science team.
  • Work with data scientists to understand their data needs and put together data pipelines to ingest data.
  • Work with data scientists to take model prototypes to production.
  • Mentor and train junior team members
  • Work with internal IT teams (security, Cloud, Global Active Directory, Architecture, Networking, etc.) to advance the team's projects
  • Enhance code deployment lifecycle
  • Improve model monitoring frameworks
  • Refine project operations documentation
  • Design, provision, and maintain the cloud infrastructure needed to support Data Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning Engineers, and Machine Learning Operations
  • Write high-quality code that has high test coverage
  • Participate in code reviews to help improve code quality
  • Work closely with IT to stay up to date on upcoming changes to National Grid's infrastructure
  • Technologies/Tools we use: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Azure (Virtual Machines, Azure Web Apps, Cloud Storage, Azure ML), Anaconda packages, Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Terraform, SQL, Artifactory, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux/Windows VMs
Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of hands-on industry experience in some combination of Software Engineering, Web Development, AI/ML Engineering, Data Science, DevOps, and Cloud Infrastructure work.
  • Expertise in React. You should be confident building performant user interfaces in TypeScript using the React library and its ecosystem. Experience with NextJS is a bonus but not essential.
  • Expertise in Python which includes experience in libraries such as Pandas & scikit-learn. High proficiency in SQL.
  • Knowledge of best practices in software engineering is necessary.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on industry experience in some combination of the following technologies: Python ecosystem, React, Azure (VMs, Web Apps, Managed Databases, Azure AI suite of services), GitHub Actions, Terraform, Packer, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux/Windows VM administration, Shell scripting (primary Bash but PowerShell as well).
  • A solid understanding of modern security and networking principles and standards.
  • A foundational knowledge of Data Science and LLMs is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Data Science, and/or related quantitative degree is preferred from an accredited institution.

Salary

Waltham: $150K - $176K a year

Brooklyn: $161K - $189K a year

Syracuse: $133K - $157K a year
