Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Truss Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating accurate and efficient roof and floor truss designs using specialized software, ensuring all designs meet building codes, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities. This role requires strong technical knowledge, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail to deliver high-quality structural designs on time and within project scope.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Design and engineer roof and floor truss systems based on architectural and structural plans.
  • Use truss design software (MiTek SE) to create layouts, drawings, and fabrication details.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and building codes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Communicate and collaborate with builders, engineers, architects, sales teams, and production staff to clarify design details and resolve technical issues.
  • Optimize designs for material efficiency, structural integrity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare and issue shop drawings and material lists for production.
  • Assist in estimating and bidding processes when needed.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation for each project.
  • Stay current with industry standards, code updates, and software developments.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.



Qualifications:



  • A minimum of 5 years of experience designing trusses with MiTek software.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with adjacent industry software - Planswift/Bluebeam, CAD, or BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with estimating and project management tools.
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles, load paths, and wood framing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and architectural drawings.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.



Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Primarily an office environment with occasional visits to production facilities or jobsites - sometimes requiring the use of ladders and other basic construction equipment.

  • Exposure to typical office noise levels and occasional plant or field environments.
  • Regular use of close vision for computer-based design work.
