Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Manager of Business Development (BD) Operations. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV).

The Objective:
As Senior Manager of Business Development (BD) Operations, you will play a pivotal role in leading core functionality within the BD Operations, Technology & Data Management team. You will ensure the broader BD Department is supported as it transforms and grows in line with firm strategy. You will execute complex operational tasks by bringing together various inter- and intra-department teams, lawyers, and leadership, driving both strategy and hands-on execution.

What will I do?
The Senior Manager of BD Operations will support the Director of BD Operations, Tech & Data Management in the administration and enhancement of BD operational processes. You will develop and institute playbooks, manage workflow teams, and drive improvements in technology, data, and project management across the department.

You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:


Responsibilities

BD Operations Leadership and Process Improvement

  • Supervise and lead the BD Workflow (Intake) team, ensuring seamless and positive first interactions with the department.
  • Develop and institute playbooks and processes to enhance the BD Workflow (Intake) team.
  • Address issues escalated by BD Workflow Specialists and step in when needed to resolve inquiries.
  • Lead, develop, and support various operational functions and tasks, including the development and deployment of templates, playbooks, and project timelines for the department.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for BD team members.
  • Lead the client CLE library program and related processes, collaborating with lawyers and stakeholders on content management.

Budget, Technology, and Data Management

  • Assist in driving the BD Budget process, including monitoring budget thresholds, leveraging technology to deploy budget plans and updates, and identifying ways to streamline and improve reporting metrics.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Manager of BD Technology & Data on assessing and implementing core technology functions.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Experience & Submissions on process, timeline, and workflow improvements.

Project Management and Team Collaboration

  • Develop and hone project management skills, performing other ad-hoc project support and duties as required.
  • Effectively and efficiently work with colleagues across various departments and functions.
  • Build rapport and maintain positive relationships with team members, driving involvement in multiple projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • 7+ years' of operational experience in law firm, legal services, or professional services marketing
  • Excellent project management and prioritization skills, including the ability to keep track of various tasks and deadlines, prioritize workload, balance competing needs, and maintain accurate and orderly records.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring that data is consistently and accurately captured and described.
  • Strong data analytic skills with an ability to leverage data to meet key goals and objectives.
  • Excellent people management skills and experience, with the ability to lead and coach members of the team.
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience required; master's degree favored.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $140,000 - $185,000
  • New York City $140,000 - $185,000
  • National $110,000 - $155,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
