The Pediatric Dentistry discipline is committed to the treatment of children, adolescents and special needs patients while balancing teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities. |
| Position Summary |
The
UNC Adams School of Dentistry Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Pediatric Dentistry discipline is committed to the treatment of children, adolescents and special needs patients while balancing teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities.
We are seeking to recruit a Dental Trauma Patient Care Team Coordinator (
DTPC) to support our pediatric dental trauma and auto-transplantation teams. The
DTPC focuses on interdisciplinary care coordination and navigation of patients through complex trauma management protocols. The position has a central role in the function of the dental trauma (DT) and auto-transplantation (AT) teams, who care for patients with complex care and scheduling needs involving multiple specialties, including pediatrics, surgery, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontics, restorative dentistry and/or prosthodontics. The
DTPC will coordinate multidisciplinary treatment and follow-up care for these cases that is often long-term, frequently extending beyond a year. The coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between families, providers, and departments to ensure a seamless, compassionate, and organized experience for patients under the care of the DT and AT. This
DPTC will also enhance the educational component of the DT/AT programs and support ancillary clinical research efforts. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Experience in dental, medical, or hospital-based interdisciplinary care coordination.
- Strong knowledge of scheduling systems, patient databases, and dental/medical terminology.
- Proficiency with dental practice management software (e.g., Epic), clinical imaging (e.g., Dolphin), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with compassion and clarity.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and multitasking ability.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Pediatric or Orthodontics patient care experience is a plus.
- Experience with research coordination or data entry for clinical studies.
- Interest in program development, outreach, and healthcare education.
- Bilingual abilities, specifically in Spanish, are highly desirable.

Mental: Requires high emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate when interacting with patient families who are under significant stress due to trauma, have complex care needs, involving multiple appointments, long distances traveled, and unanticipated care expenses. |
| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
