The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking a highly experienced senior air permitting and compliance consultant to undertake challenging work coordinating air compliance and permitting projects associated with the development, construction, and operation of varying industries. This role requires a deep understanding of air quality regulations. An ideal candidate will also have a proven track record in consulting, providing expert advice, and delivering solutions to clients. A successful person in this role is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their project management expertise and technical ability for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients. Your impact - key responsibilities
Assisting clients with air-quality permitting, environmental regulatory compliance, and related technical assignments. Collaborating with clients to identify and address air-quality issues, including regulatory applicability determinations, preparing compliance plans and reports, developing air permitting applications, and performing technical and economic feasibility studies for pollution-control equipment. Leading and managing highly collaborative project teams and developing internal team members. Participating in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel. Engaging in business development activities, including the development of proposals, scopes of work, and appropriate budgets.
About the opportunity
Compensation: Anticipated range of $120,000-160,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Hybrid : A hybrid arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Seattle, Washington, office. Travel expectation: Approximately 5-20% of the time, may vary depending on client needs. Work environment: On occasion, projects may require spending time working on site at an industrial client location. Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
About you - required core competencies
Education: bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering or a related engineering or scientific degree. Experience: 10 or more years of experience working with federal air regulations such as federal PSD/NSR and Title V, NSPS, MACT, NESHAP, and state air construction permitting.
More than 3 years of experience must be in consulting, with a strong track record of delivering successful projects. Engineering or scientific knowledge or experience in the power, fuels, mining, or manufacturing industries.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, project team members, and regulators. Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and leading and working with multidisciplinary teams to fulfill commitments on schedule and within budget and providing professional services that exceed client expectations and requirements. Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables. Willingness to travel periodically to meet project needs. Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
Experience in the petroleum refining industry. Experience with the Northwest Clean Air Agency (NWCAA) and Washington's Department of Ecology. Aptitude for developing client relationships and new business.
