Position Summary

Employees in positions at this level take and process Computed Tomography (CT) images that are used in medical diagnoses. These images are interpreted by physicians to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body. The employees work under the direct supervision of higher-level personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obtains medical history pertinent to the exam being performed within the guidelines set forth by HIPPA.
  • Must use two patient identifiers to identify patients as required by hospital policy before starting any procedure.
  • Perform computed tomography procedures according to pre-programmed protocols which require complete knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology for both adults and pediatrics.
  • Be able to use independent selection and modification of technical factors will produce optimum results only if necessary due to patient history.
  • Position patients and the CT table plus transfer on/off table. Provide immobilization devices when necessary.
  • Assist in the clinical instruction of students by completing evaluations and reviewing scans. May apply to ancillary personnel also.
  • Able to perform venipuncture and administer contrast media according to Radiology Policy and Procedures.
  • Rotate shifts as required.
  • Participate in in-service education as assigned as well as annually reviewing on the internet both Image Gently and Image Wisely information as required by the Joint Commission
  • Maintain ARRT and IEMA credentials for CT position.
  • Perform CT procedures in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Ability to perform CT exams with the minimum radiation dose to patients utilizing proper protocols and protection devices as needed.
  • Alert supervisor of equipment failure.
  • Perform daily QA and fast calculation on the CT scanner.
  • Assist in the clinical instructions or training of students or ancillary personnel.
  • Support departmental and hospital goals and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Seeks and accepts opportunities to increased job related knowledge and skills.
  • Attend lectures and demonstrate to Radiographer Specialist and Manager the ability to interact and physically handle patients from geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric and neo-natal patients.
  • Effectively utilize all information systems containing relevant patient information in RIS, EMR, and PACS.
  • Complete incomplete work lists at the end of shift and performing the necessary follow-up and/or communication for complete reconciliation.
  • Maintain and order supplies as needed in the respective CT area.
  • Provide On-Call coverage as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current/valid registration and certification in Computed Tomography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  2. Current/valid accreditation as a Radiologic Technologist by the State of Illinois (IEMA).
  3. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.
  4. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience as a radiologic technologist.
