Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Content Governance Specialist to support enterprise content structure, metadata management, taxonomy alignment, and content lifecycle processes within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role maintains the integrity, consistency, and governance of content across the CMS, ensuring content is structured, tagged, archived, and purged according to defined standards and mission needs.

The Content Governance Specialist plays a key role in establishing and enforcing metadata models, tagging requirements, taxonomy structures, governance workflows, archive schedules, and content lifecycle documentation.

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Content Governance Specialist will:

    Manage enterprise metadata models, taxonomies, tagging structures, and controlled vocabularies.
  • Maintain content lifecycle processes including creation, review, archival, and purge workflows.
  • Ensure content structure and taxonomy alignment across CMS pages, templates, and components.
  • Support content governance boards and provide recommendations for metadata or taxonomy improvements.
  • Coordinate with content editors, administrators, and program stakeholders to enforce governance standards.
  • Conduct periodic audits of content accuracy, metadata compliance, tagging completeness, and structural consistency.
  • Maintain archive/purge schedules, historical content mapping, and lifecycle documentation.
  • Assist with content search optimization by refining metadata models and indexing structures.
  • Develop SOPs, governance documentation, and reference guides for metadata and taxonomy use.
  • Provide training and onboarding sessions for program teams on governance best practices.
  • Monitor changes to CMS structure or integrations that impact metadata or taxonomy models.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to resolve metadata-related issues, broken taxonomy references, or classification gaps.


Qualifications

Clearance Requirement

Must hold an active Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 3 background investigation.

Education (Required)

Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Library Science, Communications, Technical Communication, or a related field.

Experience (Required)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing metadata, taxonomy, content structures, or digital asset governance.
  • Experience supporting content governance frameworks within CMS or enterprise content platforms.
  • Experience conducting metadata audits, content reviews, or taxonomy updates.

Technical Knowledge (Required)

  • Knowledge of metadata modeling, taxonomy design, tagging standards, and controlled vocabularies.
  • Familiarity with CMS content structures, publishing workflows, and content hierarchy management.
  • Understanding of content lifecycle management, archival processes, and retention requirements.
  • Experience using governance documentation tools, content catalogs, or metadata tracking systems.

Technical Knowledge (Preferred)

  • Experience supporting search optimization through metadata tuning or taxonomy refinement.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and Section 508 considerations in content structuring.
  • Experience with analytics tools or content quality assessment frameworks.

Certifications

Required: None

Preferred:

  • ITIL Foundations
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
  • Information Architecture or metadata management certifications (if applicable)

Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail for metadata and taxonomy accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills for supporting editors, stakeholders, and governance discussions.
  • Ability to analyze large sets of content for structure, tagging consistency, and compliance.
  • Strong documentation skills for SOPs, lifecycle processes, and governance materials.
  • Ability to balance governance rigor with mission needs and operational deadlines.
