Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision and direction of the Instrument Maintenance Supervisor the Instrument Maintenance Technician shall provide the necessary skills to successfully conduct repairs, preventative, predictive, and condition based maintenance, Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS), System Accuracy Tests (SAT), furnace control instrument calibrations, and other gauge and meter calibrations, calibrate combustion systems to maintain operation of furnaces and quality control equipment in a Quality environment in accordance with quality compliance and customer procedures. Assist in the continuous improvement of procedures, methods, and training and provide hands on technical assistance in the development and implementation of improved controls and other engineering projects as directed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* A working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and electro-mechanical controls a must.
* Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and diagrams.
* Conduct maintenance and repair technical services for Production furnaces, Heat Treat furnaces and other quality control equipment requiring calibration and certification.
* Display sound understanding of combustion theory and application of concepts during furnace troubleshooting and repair to maintain thermal furnace characteristics and operational efficiency.
* Troubleshoot, repair and calibrate furnace control and other instruments such as the temperature recorders, temperature controllers, and high limit controllers of furnaces and other equipment requiring calibration and certification such as NDT and other test equipment using various test equipment and procedures.
* Properly fill out and return all required paperwork in conjunction with assigned tasks.
* Work in conjunction with Maintenance Planner, Leadmen, Outside Contractors, Internal Support Activities, and Supervision to complete furnace maintenance activities, major outages and installations as assigned in a correct and timely manner.
* Conduct certifications and calibrations to ensure they meet all observed specifications including working with thermocouple wire, control thermocouples, potentiometers, optical - pyrometers and gas analyzers.
* Ability to understand and comply with company procedures and work instructions.

EDUCATION:
* BS in electronics and instrumentation preferred, or 2-year technical training program in instrumentation and electronics.
* High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
* Relevant work experience operating machine tools, including numerical control and manual lathes, and machining centers.
* Proficiency in reading blueprints, interpreting specifications, and understanding machine instructions.
WORK CONDITIONS:
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use arms and hands; climb and balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; and crawl.
* The employee must be able to read, listen, and give verbal instructions.
* The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close up and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
* The employee must also be able to work in close cramped areas.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
* The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
* Noise levels are high and frequently require the use of hearing protection.
* The employee must be able to work in extremely cold or hot conditions.
HOURS: Must be able to work any shift. 1st shift: 6am-2pm, 2nd shift: 2pm-10pm, 3rd shift 10pm-6am
