What does a Director of Data Science do at Swire Coca- Cola? The Data Science Director is a senior leader responsible for defining and executing Swire's data science strategy, leading, and mentoring teams, and aligning data-driven initiatives with business strategies, roadmaps, and goals. He/she will develop strategic initiatives in alignment with our IT Product team and functional business leadership.
Responsibilities
- Develop the long-term vision and strategy for data science that aligns with overall business strategies and objectives
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data scientists
- Work with cross-functional teams (such as data engineering, product, and business units) to identify opportunities and solve problems using data
- Evaluate and select appropriate data science models and tools and stay current with new technological advancements
- Establish robust evaluation frameworks to assess model performance, business outcomes, and resource allocation, ensuring decisions are grounded in quantitative evidence and aligned with long-term objectives
- Lead data-driven strategic decisions by evaluating complex business challenges, interpreting advanced analytics, and recommending actionable solutions that balance risk, impact, and organizational goals
- Oversee the design, development, and execution of data science projects, including the support of creating new machine learning models and algorithms
- Present data insights, findings, and recommendations to executive leadership and company stakeholders
- Continuously adapt to emerging technologies and methodologies by fostering a culture of experimentation, rapid prototyping, and iterative learning to maintain competitive advantage in data science practices
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree In a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline required
- Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferred
- 5+ years in leadership or management roles overseeing cross-functional teams
- 5+ years of progressive experience in data analytics or data science
Advanced proficiency in programming languages - Expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and data modeling techniques
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies
- Familiarity with MLOps practices for model deployment and monitoring
- Strategic Thinking: The ability to formulate and execute data science process frameworks
- Leadership & Mentoring: Guiding and inspiring data science teams while developing processes and fostering a positive work environment.
- Problem Solving: Ability to show reasoning and methodology for problem rationalization and solution
- Communication Expertise: Strong facilitation, collaboration, and documentation skills. Must be able to communicate effectively both in speech and writing at an Executive Level with confidence
- Team player: Works well in a team environment but holds individuals accountable. Strong collaboration skills to help a team or work group achieve its goals
- Proactive: Seeks out information, answers, etc. without needing to be pushed to do so. Ability to quickly process information and distill into decisions, issues, items requiring action
- Building Partnerships: Experience partnering with the business/multiple teams to develop strategic delivery methods
