Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Fiduciary Benefits Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing government and community entitlement services on behalf of individuals served by the Public Fiduciary. This role ensures that clients receive and maintain eligibility for benefits such as Social Security, Veterans Administration programs, federal and private pensions, AFDC, AHCCCS, ALTCS, SNAP, Medicare, and private health insurance.

The specialist serves as a liaison between clients, government agencies, and community organizations to secure necessary resources, complete required documentation, and resolve benefit-related issues. In addition, the position requires careful monitoring of changes in program regulations, timely submission of applications and renewals, and ongoing advocacy to safeguard the financial and healthcare needs of clients under fiduciary care.

We Require

  • Four years of specialized clerical experience, two years of which must have been in a specialized capacity involving extensive public contact, coordination of resources within a public sector organization

  • High school diploma or GED

We Also Value

  • Experience working directly with government-funded benefits programs, including medical, dental, nutrition assistance, or other related services

  • Experience related to guardianship and/or conservatorship case management or support

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven success in working with diverse populations

Job Contributions

  • Conducts intake and referral coordination, and participates in benefits interviews to assess eligibility for government and private entitlements

  • Researches and verifies financial, medical, and personal records to determine eligibility for federal, state, county, community, and private benefits

  • Prepares and submits applications and supporting documentation for benefit programs in a timely and accurate manner

  • Maintains benefits eligibility by proactively monitoring cases and completing required re-determinations

  • Issues multiple notifications to clients or their representatives when there is a risk of benefit loss

  • Drafts and prepares correspondence, reports, and other written communications for public and private agencies

  • Maintains accurate and complete case files, and records daily activities in the client timekeeping system

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with attorneys, physicians, hospital staff, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, Department of Economic Security, Medicare, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), and other relevant institutions and agencies

  • Participates in staff orientation and ongoing training to ensure compliance with current benefits regulations and program requirements

Working Conditions

  • Regular interaction with culturally, socioeconomically, and behaviorally diverse populations, including individuals experiencing instability or crisis

  • Ability to work in-office (5 days in the office per week) for the first 6-12 months, and will be reviewed for a hybrid schedule (2 days in the office per week) once satisfactory performance is established

  • Frequent travel is required within Maricopa County; must adhere to County vehicle use policies

  • Physical demands include exerting up to 25 lbs. Occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. consistently

  • Work occurs in both office and field settings, with potential exposure to: loud noises, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, varying weather conditions, hazards such as chemicals, mechanical equipment, or substandard housing conditions
