POSITION SPECIFICS

The Office of Physical Plant is looking for a Floater Supervisor- Custodial Services Supervisorto direct staff and technical service personnel to deliver responsive, quality, and cost-effective custodial services. Effectively utilize and steward human, financial, and material resources. Interact and coordinate with internal and external departments to accomplish mutual goals and to further OPP's interest to support the mission of the University. This position is not tied to a specific district or group of employees; instead, it functions as a floater supervisor, filling in for supervisory vacancies and absences as needed.
This is a floater supervisor rolethat will primarily work Monday through Friday from 4:30 pm to 1:00 a.m., but will also be responsible for covering other supervisor shifts as needed. The schedule may vary based on operational requirements.
Shifts include:
  • First Shift:Monday - Friday, 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Second Shift:Monday - Friday, 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
  • Third Shift:Sunday - Friday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
This position is intended to transition into a future District Supervisor vacancy, rather than remaining in a permanent floater role. The future District Supervisor position could be on any of the three shifts, so candidates must be willing and able to work any shift long-term.
Primary Duties
  • Work Supervision
    Hire, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff and technical employees. Plan work schedules for all shifts. Establish cleaning procedures. Maintain inventory and ensure adequate distribution of materials to job sites. Inspect and ensure quality and quantity standards are met. Report physical changes in work areas or any required maintenance or repair of equipment. Maintain shift records, reports, work orders, schedules, etc. Ensure execution of planned work to meet established time frames and performance standards. Supervise a high volume of temporary and wage/payroll employees due to special seasonal events such as Temporary Transfers and Stadium Operations. Ensure University recycling policies and guidelines and waste removal procedures are maintained. Cover for Custodial Supervisors when absent or unavailable, including time card approval, work order issuing, filling overtime, quality assurance inspections, and customer service. Assist with custodial snow removal efforts when covering vacancies or absences.
  • Quality Assurance & Improvement
    Make recommendations to the supervisor pertaining to cleaning methods or procedures, material or equipment additions, organizational changes, etc. Advise and/or resolve workflow status or problems on a daily basis. Apply Continuous Quality Improvement techniques to ensure Quality Standards are met. Coach employees to ensureproper techniques and processes are performed. Monitor Preventive Maintenance Work Orders and Key Performance Measures. Attend seminars and conferences to keep abreast of industry trends and technology improvements. Conduct quality assurance inspections for other supervisors and employees as needed.
  • Human Resource Supervision
    Handle discipline issues utilizing the Union-University agreement and HR procedures. Participate in the grievance process. Make recommendations for staffing changes and take appropriate action in consultation with the Custodial Programs Manager. Schedule and perform the monthly required training for assigned employees. Mentor employees to conduct training needs assessments.
  • Budget
    Administer and control assigned budget and monitor planned and actual expenditures. Provide data and analytical input to the budgeting and planning process. Make operational decisions based on budget status. Responsible for budgets as needed while covering for vacancies and absences in other Custodial Districts.
  • Safety
    Ensure security for assigned buildings. Ensure safe and proper working conditions. Investigate accidents. Monitor custodial safety measures, including Material Safety Data Sheets, injury reports, and personal protective equipment. Perform weekly safety inspections. Recommend and implement injury prevention measures. Conduct safety inspections for other supervisors and employees as needed.
  • Customer Service & Relations
    Provide a high level of interaction with facility coordinators, service desk coordinators, key building contact personnel, and other customers to achieve and maintain satisfaction with custodial services. Meet and communicate routinely with primary customers. Attend and actively participate in customer meetings. Follow up on customer requests to ensure satisfaction.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
