Description

Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. We hire people that are skilled and passionate to meet our mission to end homelessness through outcome-based strategies which support personal and community transformation.

The Janitor II is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients at Central City Concern's Blackburn Center. Duties include performing daily tasks such as cleaning lobbies, hallways, unoccupied offices, bathrooms, common areas, and exam areas. They also assist with leadership, training oversight of crew, conducts safety and quality inspections.

Location: Blackburn Center, 12121 E. Burnside St. Portland, OR 97216

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation: $19.22/hr - $23.00/hr

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Must have at least one year experience in interior and exterior janitorial cleaning.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED or be able to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Previous experience maintaining the Hooper Detox and Sobering facilities preferred.
  • Must be trained or be able to be trained in bio-hazard cleanup.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Must have reliable access to transportation for regular transportation between programs.
  • Must have the ability to work in all C.C.C. Housing buildings and outside locations.
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern's drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988. An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance or alcohol.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform duties.
  • Must be able to identify pests such as bed bugs, cockroaches, fleas, rodents.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects and climb stairs with reasonable or no accommodation.
  • May be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. If required, cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern.
  • Must adhere to agency's non-discrimination policies.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:



  • Regularly assess building for hazards and fire code violations to maintain compliance. Submit and track maintenance requests to resolution.
  • Assist with leadership, training and oversight of crew.
  • Partners with Employee Access Center to provide all day training and skill-building to two (2) EAC staff members two (2) days per week.
  • Participates in Blackburn Safety Committee Meetings to report on maintenance and janitorial activity and brings safety issues to Committee for resolution.
  • Day to day facade maintenance include of pruning and disposal limbs and debris around the clinic, vacant lot and parking lot properties
  • Partnership to Janitor I and Blackburn staff to report issues and provide guidance as needed.
  • Timely graffiti removal from building, sidewalks, and fences using SDS designated solvents to remove without damaging the surface.
  • Cleaning and minor repairs to fence line due to regular vandalism.
  • Inspects roof for maintenance needs, cleans roof drains and caps, and cleans and disposes of animal waste buildup on the roof using appropriate PPE.
  • Responsible for maintaining SDS and teaching staff how to access and use.
  • Responsible for ordering and stocking of janitorial supply inventory.
  • Clean lobbies, hallways, unoccupied offices, bathrooms, common areas and exam rooms.
  • Clean windows, floors, countertops, appliances and fixtures.
  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, disinfecting and polishing.
  • Clean up of bio-hazard materials.
  • Trash chute maintenance and cleaning.
  • Assist with other janitorial duties as needed and provide back-up for absences. May float to other sites to provide support as needed.
  • Polish floors and clean carpets as needed.
  • Identify pests such as roaches and bed bugs.
  • May require clean up after pest sprays, including vacuuming of pests and disposal of bed bug infested property.
  • Maintain waiting areas and offices in safe, clean and orderly manner.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are stocked and maintained.
  • Attend all required meetings and training.
  • Adhere to safety procedures.
  • Responsible for locking all doors and ensuring facility is secured.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security. Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners' and outside providers' patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access. This includes immediately reporting any breach of protected health information or personal identification information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider to the CCC Compliance Department, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Ability to consider the impacts and outcomes for underserved communities during decision-making process.
  • Ability to consider impacts of oppression, structural racism, and individual bias on client outcomes.
  • Ability to lead and train janitors.
  • Ability to use cleaning agents such as soap, polish, disinfectants, etc. specifically experience with solvents used to remove graffiti from various surfaces without causing damage.
  • Ability to learn how to operate various cleaning equipment, i.e. extractors, buffers, power washers, vacuums, steam cleaners.
  • Ability to recognize, identify and remove pests such as roaches and bed bugs.
  • Ability to learn applicable safety policies and procedures, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and the ability to apply workplace and job-site safety standards.
  • Knowledge of proper chemicals and application of chemicals specific to pest control and bio-hazard clean ups.
  • Ability to identify bio-hazard situations and clean in accordance to OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, lift, and carry 10 to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to do overhead work.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the general public on the telephone or in person.
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply written and oral instruction.
  • Ability to work in all adverse weather conditions including but not limited to rain, wind, heat, cold, snow, and ice.
  • Must be able to work independently
