Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for providing direct research support within the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (CSTAR) Qualitative Core for a qualitative interview study involving parents and guardians of pediatric patients. Under direct supervision, assists with participant recruitment, remote informed consent, qualitative interview scheduling, interview conduct, and management of audio files and transcripts. Works with investigators, managers, clinical providers, and regulatory staff across CSTAR and the Medical Center. Interfaces with participants and their families in a professional, respectful, and confidential manner.

Job Responsibilities:

Participant Interaction & Recruitment

  • Interacts with participants and families as a representative of the CSTAR Qualitative Core.
  • Contacts potential participants using IRB-approved scripts; describes the study, screens for eligibility, and coordinates scheduling.
  • Conducts eligibility screening based on protocol criteria and documents results accurately.
  • Schedules and coordinates remote informed consent and interviews in alignment with CSTAR Qualitative Core procedures.
  • Maintains respectful, supportive communication throughout the recruitment and interview process.

Qualitative Interview Activities

  • Conducts one-on-one qualitative interviews remotely (phone or WebEx) using the standardized interview guide approved for the study.
  • Ensures interviews adhere to ethical, consistent, and participant-centered standards for qualitative data collection.
  • Manages sensitive conversations and emotionally complex topics appropriately within protocol guidelines.

Data Handling and Documentation

  • Manages secure storage, transfer, and organization of audio files, interview notes, and related documents in accordance with CSTAR and institutional policies.
  • Coordinates transcription processes; reviews transcripts for accuracy and removes any identifying information.
  • Enters non-clinical study data into REDCap or other designated platforms; maintains detailed CSTAR Qualitative Core tracking logs of recruitment, consent, interview status, and data management.
  • Compiles interview data and assists with preparing descriptive summaries or materials for internal review.

Protocol Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Ensures protocol adherence across all qualitative research activities.
  • Follows standard CSTAR and IRB procedures for eligibility verification, consent documentation, confidentiality protections, and secure data handling.
  • Maintains familiarity with IRB requirements and assists with updating regulatory documents as needed.
  • Participates in internal reviews of CSTAR Qualitative Core documentation to ensure compliance and quality.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Collaborates with CSTAR investigators, clinical collaborators, and research staff involved in identifying and referring eligible participants.
  • Provides timely updates to the CSTAR Qualitative Core supervisor and study leadership regarding recruitment progress, interview completion, and emerging concerns.
  • Conducts literature or background searches to support qualitative analysis preparation, if needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assists with consolidating data and preparing summaries for investigator or regulatory reporting.
  • Participates in CSTAR Qualitative Core meetings and required research education activities.
  • Performs additional qualitative research coordination duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Cant edit these)

  • Associate's degree plus one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $28.15 - $29.70 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
