OB/GYN Physicians Job Summary

The Manager of OBGYN APPs - Gyn Specialty provides clinical care to patients in the OBGYN department that may include antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and primary or specialty gynecologic services. Provides primary health care services from adolescence through menopause including the provision of family planning services, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, and individualized wellness education and counseling. Supervises and teaches students and residents in the clinical setting.
The GYN APP manager is a provider who has demonstrated and holds reputation of excellence in clinical care. The Manager will have demonstrated or willingness to undergo training in leadership skills, hospital operations and performance metrics, and skilled in teaching and mentoring other providers and students. The Manager, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Associate Chair of Outpatient Services, will be responsible for outpatient strategic planning, care delivery, professional performance, regulatory compliance, quality of care and unit culture for the Pavilion B OB/GYN Clinic, including providing direct leadership and supervision for the GYN APP team. The Manager will work closely with the RN manager, outpatient MD leadership, and APP staff to monitor quality of care, patient access, staff engagement, and regulatory compliance. Provides mentorship for midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Essential Functions:
  • Clinical Expectations:
    * Provides full-scope midwifery clinical care as the needs of the service dictates.
    * Model clinical excellence in direct patient care, ensuring the application of best practices and evidence-based care. * Precept nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and medical students, residents and fellows by following Denver Health guidelines for trainees.
    * Lead a culture of open dialogue and feedback with all staff and develop healthy team norms.
    * Develop pathways to support staff and promote employee wellness.
    * Lead a culture of inclusion by building awareness and model acceptance of all individuals.
    * Develop the collaborative care model in day-to-day interactions.
    * Set the standard for holistic, whole-person and family-centered care. (80%)

  • Administrative Expectations:
    * Lead outpatient patient safety and quality improvement.
    * Develops appropriate clinical guidelines and protocols for Pavilion B OB/GYN Clinic.
    * Promote and oversee development of critical pathways, protocols and practice guidelines that promote quality, cost-effective care for Pavilion B OB/GYN Clinic.
    * Ensure that appropriate quality improvement standards/metrics are established, maintained, and reported for outpatient care delivery sites.
    * Leads internal data collection and research initiatives and participates in benchmarking and data analysis and dissemination.
    * Supervise the outpatient team leads and direct reports in clinical and assigned administrative duties, ensuring performance expectations and customer service standards are met.
    * Completes performance evaluations, manages HR matters, and is responsible for any disciplinary action for all direct reports. (20%)

Education:
  • Master's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Two years of OBGYN advanced practice provider experience (CNM, WHNP, PA-C), preferably including management or leadership experience. Required

Licenses:
  • WHNP-Women's Health Nurse Practitioner - NCC - National Certification Corporation Required and
  • NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • NPRXN-Nurse Practitioner Prescriber - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required or
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - AMCB - American Midwifery Certification Board Required and
  • CNM-Certified Nurse Midwife - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • CNMRXN-Nurse Midwife Prescriber - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
  • NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program - AHA - American Heart Association Required or
  • PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required and
  • PAC-Certified Physician Assistant - NCCPA - National Commission for Certifying Agencies Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care and/or management of gynecologic conditions.
  • Family planning advice and the provision of contraception, including long-acting reversible contraceptive devices
  • Empathic communication and trauma-informed care
  • Computer skills required include fluency in use of Electronic Health Records and word processing.
  • Skill in teaching in the clinical setting
