THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Safety Specialist 2, you will be responsible for developing, organizing, monitoring, and conducting safety-related guidance and trainings in addition to providing vital technical assistance in support of district and county personnel. Specific functions will involve coordinating, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures to institute an effective safety program. Duties entail monitoring programs to ensure compliance, providing trainings, and conducting on-site visits for all components of the Accident/Injury Prevention Program (AIPP). You will analyze and interpret various sources of data to make recommendations for methods and procedures for implementing safety management programs. Within this role, you will provide comprehensive guidance to management regarding safety related corrective actions plans, as well as ensure follow-up action plan reviews are conducted. Additional responsibilities include serving as the Chair for the Accident Review Committee and district safety committee meetings with district management and respective Counties and Tunnels.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Safety Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in conducting safety inspections, safety investigations, or safety training; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is required to obtain an active Advanced Safety Certificate issued by the National Safety Council's Safety Training Institute within two years of starting in this job.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
