RHSC in St. Paul, MN is looking for exceptional, patient focused Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Medical Intensive Care team and make a difference for our patients and our community.

The Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) for Medical Intensive Care is primarily responsible for assisting staff physicians in the consultative care of patients with critical care needs in the Intensive Care Unit. The APC team is primarily assigned to cover one of 3 critical care teams and co-manage all patients on that team with the staff intensivist. Depending on needs across the 3 services, the APC may support the 2 primarily teaching services if needed. The APC will initiate and independently perform medical assessments and will initiate and evaluate care under in partnership with a staff Intensivist. Additional responsibilities include providing day to day coordination and continuity to patients and nurses to ensure efficient utilization of physician resources. This will require developing a work plan every day that matches patient priority to available resources. The APC will develop and communicate transfer plans and/or discharge plans of care to the patients, family members and receiving teams if the patient is transferred.

Work Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 11-12 per month on a variable basis to ensure adequate staffing on the CC2 team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • 1 year practicing as an advanced practice clinician in an inpatient hospital setting.

  • Current registration to practice as a Physician Assistant in Minnesota plus current national certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant OR Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Minnesota plus current Nurse Practitioner certification.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.

  • Current DEA certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience providing inpatient care, preferably in an intensive care unit, emergency department, or hospital medicine.
