DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this distinctive role, you will be tasked with delivering comprehensive library and law library services to inmates at SCI-Smithfield. You will manage the operations of a full-service library and supervise library assistants, while also ensuring the safety and compliance of inmates within your designated area. Your responsibilities will include conducting an annual evaluation of library services to meet the standards set by the American Correctional Association and the Correctional Education Association. You will provide guidance and training to inmate patrons, legal reference aides, and library clerks, regularly assessing their work performance. Additionally, you will facilitate the circulation of library materials, assist patrons in selecting appropriate reading and reference resources, manage overdue items, and maintain the security of the library collection. Effective scheduling of the law library is essential, especially for inmates facing court deadlines, which also involves keeping law library computers up to date. You will maintain communication with the public by responding to inquiries via letters, emails, and phone calls regarding library services. Interested in learning more? REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years as a Corrections Library Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of corrections library experience, and a bachelor's degree in library science; or
- One year of professional library experience, and a bachelor's degree in library science; or
- A master's degree in library science; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
