POSITION SPECIFICS

Physician Assistant - Penn State Altoona Health & Wellness Center

Full-Time | AAAHC-Accredited Student Health Center | Integrated Medical & Mental Health Model

Location: Altoona, PA

About the Position

Penn State Altoona's AAAHC-accredited Health & Wellness Center is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and autonomous Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to provide evidence-based, student-centered clinical care within a comprehensive model that integrates medical services, counseling, psychiatry, wellness, and health promotion.

Our ideal candidate is committed to holistic health, values collaboration, and thrives in a setting that supports both independence and teamwork. At times, this position requires working independently as the on-site clinician. This position would report to the co-director of the Health & Wellness Center.

Typical Work Schedule

  • Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

  • Wednesday & Thursday: 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM

  • Additional Hours: Select weekend and evening work may be required based on clinical needs, campus events, or staffing.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for acute and chronic medical conditions common in young adult and college populations.

  • Conduct health assessments, preventive care visits, physical exams, minor procedures, and chronic disease management.

  • Deliver culturally competent and developmentally appropriate care to a diverse student community.

  • Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.

  • Prescribe medications and manage treatment plans in accordance with Pennsylvania state scope-of-practice regulations.

  • Provide sexual and reproductive health services, including contraception counseling, STI screening/treatment, and LGBTQ+ affirming care.

  • Participate in emergency and urgent response, including triage, stabilization, and coordination of care.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Physician Assistant - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Physician Assistant - Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine If filled as Physician Assistant - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Physician Assistant - Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine

Qualifications

  • Current Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.

  • Current NCCPA national certification.

  • DEA registration or eligibility.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • Experience in primary care, family medicine, urgent care, or college health settings.

Job Type: The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. The months off are scheduled for June/July. Questions related to HR105 FTE positions should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. This position is eligible for benefits associated with any full-time position. The salary grade and range listed in the posting is reflective of a 100% Full-time position. Full-time equivalency job offers may fall outside of the listed range due to the assigned percentage of effort.

Due to business circumstances and needs and the timing of the hire, this position will be 100% FTE (12 months) for the first year of employment and then be reduced to 83.3% during the second year of employment and forward.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $86,300.00 - $145,700.00.
