The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Reporting to the Manager Quality and Materials, the Project Quality Control Specialist will ensure compliance with applicable Federal Railroad Administration regulations and Federal Transit Administration Quality Management System Guidelines, Metra's Corporate Quality guidelines, and the Mechanical Department's quality plan. Identifies quality problems and recommend solutions to quality concerns. Performs inspections of vehicles in the rehabilitation programs and other capitally funded programs; identifies quality control problems and provides recommendations; and collaborates with Mechanical Department personnel in the identification, resolution of non-conformances failure analysis, and root cause investigation for capital projects and others. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR, in lieu of specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four (4) years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a public or private railroad operation, other government organization or related industry.
  2. In addition to #1, five (5) years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a public or private railroad operation, government organization, manufacturing, or related industry.
  3. Knowledge of railroad mechanical operations and safety rules and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and the ability to apply them in concrete situations.
  5. Knowledge of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Quality Management System Guidelines.
  6. Must be able to read and interpret assembly drawings, component drawings, and schematics.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  9. Able to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timeliness through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  10. Able to exercise discretion with sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.
  11. Must be able to obtain FRA 238 certification within 60 days. Other certifications may be required as they become applicable.
  12. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  13. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
