The Financial Analyst - Internal Controls is responsible for supporting the effectiveness of HNI's internal control environment. This role assists with governance, documentation, testing, and audit support (both internal and external) related to internal controls, while partnering with Controllers and business leaders across the organization. The position also emphasizes continuous process improvement to enhance efficiency, reduce risk, and enable more value-added financial work. This role is based in Muscatine, IA.

What You Will Do:

Internal Control Compliance

  • Assist with ensuring internal controls are designed and operating effectively through governance activities, tracking, and retention of appropriate supporting evidence
    Support Controllers and business leaders by providing guidance related to control execution, documentation, and compliance expectations
  • Maintain and update internal control documentation, including process narratives, flowcharts, and key report testing. Review key reports prepared by the business for external auditor reliance
  • Visually map processes and identify key controls to support compliance requirements and reduce control deficiencies year over year
  • Assist with internal and external audit activities, including preparing requested documentation, responding to inquiries, and supporting remediation efforts
  • Own the segregation review and tools throughout HNI from an Internal Controls perspective, and partner with GRC on the systematic performance of the tools

Process Improvement

  • Perform responsibilities with a continuous improvement mindset, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency
  • Recommend enhancements to control design, documentation, and testing methodologies
    Help create capacity for additional value-added analytical and financial work through improved processes

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role (e.g., internal controls, audit, accounting or financial analysis)
  • Basic understanding of internal controls financial processes, and compliance
  • Proficiency with standard business and financial systems, reporting tools and documentation platforms
  • Experience supporting SOX or other internal control frameworks
  • Prior exposure to internal or external audit environments
  • Experience with process documentation, flowcharting, or control testing
