Job Description

The Project Director provides senior leadership on assigned programs and projects including profit, safety, and client management.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees programs and/or multiple assigned projects.
  • Leads assigned project managers to achieve corporate and project goals.
  • Ensures achievement of safety objectives on assigned projects.
  • Ensures achievement of corporate goals for assigned projects.
  • Oversees coordination of resources to achieve project goals.
  • Trains project assignees on good project management techniques and develops skills of all assigned personnel.
  • Oversees client interaction on assigned projects and promotes positive relationships.
  • Protects corporation through application of prudent risk management techniques.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Operations & Administrative

  • Develops prime contract with Client. Develops working knowledge of prime contract requirements.
  • Oversees the development of written project execution plans and works with Department Directors to review and approve these plans.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of written project scopes of work.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of project schedules. Oversees coordination of design, commissioning, and qualification schedule requirements with construction schedule.
  • Works with Estimating to develop project budgets. Oversees delivery of basis documents to Estimating. Works with Director of Operations to review and approve estimates and project budgets.
  • Oversees monitoring and reporting of project costs. Works closely with Project Manager to forecast final cost of project periodically. Thoroughly challenges cost report basis assumptions to ensure conservative, accurate forecasting of project cost.
  • Oversees management of changes to prime contract. Vigorously protects corporate positions, and frequently and thoroughly challenges Project Manager to conservatively manage change.
  • Coordinate with Financial group to manage Accounts Receivable to meet corporate goals. Works with financial group to manage project financial issues.
  • Oversees assigned Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure achievement of contractually required quality in design, construction, commissioning and qualification services.
  • Oversees site safety and monitors site safety performance for assigned projects.
  • Oversees the development of design content and deliverables to ensure suitability for intended purpose.
  • Oversees assigned Project Managers and Project Engineers in evaluation of design content for constructability and compliance with basis documents, schedule, and budget.
  • Oversees assigned Project Managers and Project Engineers in the procurement process.
  • Oversees assigned Project Managers and Project Engineers in the negotiation and management of subcontracts and purchase orders, including change control documentation and related financial documentation.
  • Oversees evaluation and payment of vendor and subcontractor invoices as required to meet project and corporate goals.
  • Monitors quality of communications between all project participants and recommends corrective actions for communication deficiencies.
  • Monitors quality of document control and recommends corrective actions for document control deficiencies.
  • Ensures that all IPS design, construction, and compliance activities on project delivery projects comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentors assigned Project Managers and Project Engineers, evaluates opportunities for their improvement and advancement, and recommends actions to exploit those opportunities.
  • Assists Discipline and Operations Directors in the evaluation of Project Managers and Engineers as well as technical personnel.

Business Development

  • Supports project/client development process with presentations and related marketing activities.
  • Supports Director of Operations and General Manager in preparation of proposals.

Personal Development

  • Maintains personal competency in relevant professional areas.
  • Maintains long-term industry relationships.

Qualifications & Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of fifteen years' experience required. Professional registration preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff of professionals
  • Analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communications skills, team building and strong work ethic. Must be able to build report with department staff
  • Must be licensed and stamped/signed drawings per applicable law

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY

  • Travel based on the project location.

  • This position is a safety sensitive position. The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other "non-administrative" areas.
