The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Senior Scientist to work in the Analytical Neurochemistry Lab of Prof. Jill Venton. We are seeking candidates to work as a lab manager on NIH RO1-funded projects involving designing new pharmacogenetic tests and designing techniques to measure neurotransmitters. The Venton Lab is working on a pharmacogenetics project to detect genetic profiles that underlie drug metabolism of antidepressants. The lab also develops new methods to for measuring real-time changes in neurotransmitters in rodents and Drosophila. Thus, we are seeking candidates with genetics skills as well as neuroscience knowledge. The candidate will also act as a lab manager, helping students with their projects, composing protocols, writing grants, and writing scientific publications. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field. Experience in genetics and neurochemistry is preferred. This position is at the Senior Scientist level, with a preference for at least two years of experience past postdoc. The position requires skills in managing lab research projects, working with students, and writing scientific publications.
