POSITION SUMMARY

Winston & Strawn LLP is seeking a Director of Strategic Marketing, Communications, and Brand to lead the firm's integrated marketing, communications, and brand strategy and the team that drives top of the funnel initiatives and actions. This senior leader will be responsible for shaping and executing a cohesive global narrative that strengthens the firm's market position, supports business development objectives, and reinforces Winston's reputation for excellence, innovation, and client service.

The Director will work closely with firm leadership, practice leaders, business development professionals, and external partners to elevate brand visibility, drive strategic initiatives, and ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all channels. The successful candidate will be a confident, empathetic leader who combines strategic vision with operational excellence. They will bring credibility, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach, along with the ability to motivate teams and influence at the highest levels of the firm. This role provides significant visibility, strategic influence, and the chance to make a lasting impact on how the firm is perceived in the marketplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of marketing and communications professionals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Business Development and Marketing, firm leadership, and other business professional teams to support firmwide initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, agencies, and consultants to ensure high-quality execution and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the marketing function.

Strategic Marketing & Brand Leadership

  • Develop and execute a firmwide marketing and brand strategy aligned with Winston & Strawn's long-term business objectives and growth priorities.
  • Serve as the steward of the firm's current and future brand, ensuring consistency, clarity, and differentiation across all internal and external touchpoints.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to firm leadership on brand, reputation management, media strategy, and market positioning.
  • Translate firm strategy into clear, market-facing positioning that resonates with clients, prospects, and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with practice groups and industry teams to develop targeted marketing initiatives that support client development and cross-selling efforts.

Communications & Thought Leadership

  • Lead the firm's external communications strategy, including messaging, content development, and editorial planning.
  • Oversee media relations, public relations, awards submissions, and crisis communications in collaboration with team leadership and outside agencies as needed.
  • Elevate the firm's thought leadership platform by identifying opportunities to amplify attorney insights through digital, print, speaking, and media channels.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent communications that reflect the firm's values and voice.

Digital & Content Strategy

  • Guide the development and execution of digital marketing initiatives, including website content, social media, email campaigns, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Use data and analytics to measure effectiveness, refine strategies, and improve engagement across channels.
  • Oversee content governance to ensure quality, compliance, and alignment with brand standards.

Cross-Functional & Firmwide Collaboration

  • Work seamlessly with attorneys, firm leadership, business development, and operations teams to align communications and marketing strategies across the firm's offices and practices.
  • Act as a connector and consensus-builder, balancing strategic vision with practical execution in a complex organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in leadership overseeing strategic communications, marketing, brand, or related roles, preferably within a law firm or other professional services environment required.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to the firm office with the ability to come into the office 3-4 days per week.

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated success leading and managing teams, including experience developing senior talent and managing managers.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate firm objectives into integrated communications and leadership-driven initiatives.
  • Proven experience advising senior executives or partners and operating effectively in a highly collaborative, high-expectation culture.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Experience managing complex projects, multiple stakeholders, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

SALARY
T he target annual salary range for this role is currently $240,000 - $280,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. To tal compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
