The Role

The News Service of Florida is seeking a Senior Reporter who can lead our coverage of the Florida State Capitol. This role is for an experienced writer who can cover high-profile committee meetings, floor sessions and the state budget, providing the nuanced analysis our professional subscribers depend on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the daily and weekly news agenda, prioritizing stories that provide the most value to our specialized subscriber base
  • Top-edit all copy for accuracy, tone, and legal risk, ensuring every story is "wire-ready" for our syndication partners
  • Lead and recruit a talented team of reporters
  • Oversee the workflow of the 60-day legislative session, managing gavel-to-gavel coverage and budget-related news
  • Act as a liaison for key stakeholders, ensuring our coverage meets the professional needs of our paid subscribers
  • Moderate and emcee events as needed

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in journalism, with at least 3 years in an editorial leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of Florida's legislative process, state agencies and political landscape.
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume newsroom under strict deadlines.

The compensation range for this role is $90,000 to $100,000 per year.
