About the Position

Bring your leadership and construction maintenance experience to Maricopa County as a Shop Foreman. This role provides the opportunity to apply hands-on supervisory skills while delivering professional and technical guidance in fabrication, inventory management, small equipment repair, and customer service.

The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing fleet assets, tools, materials, and supplies that support the maintenance and improvement of Flood Control District dams, levees, channels, drains, basins, and related structures throughout Maricopa County. This position plays an important role in ensuring equipment readiness, operational efficiency, and the effective support of critical infrastructure projects.

We Require

  • Three years of experience in skilled construction or maintenance

  • High school diploma or GED

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Must possess or be able to obtain an OSHA 30-Hour certification within six months of hire

We Also Value

  • Prior lead and/or supervisor experience

  • Experience with MIG and SMAW welding machines, fabrication tools, and mechanical equipment

  • Proficient in the use of cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and pipe benders

  • A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Job Contributions

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of a small team, including assigning work, training, scheduling, approving time off, completing performance evaluations, and administering disciplinary action when necessary. Manage shop safety and train staff in the proper use of equipment to ensure a safe work environment

  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet project needs and schedules; assure completion of work orders to meet Division standards, and ensure that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site

  • Monitor and enforce adherence to Division policies, procedures, and standards; ensure all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site. Manage Shop safety and train staff on proper use of equipment to ensure a safe work environment

  • Prepare daily activity, material, and equipment usage reports

  • Read and interpret blueprints, detailed drawings, schematics, and maps. This also includes developing shop drawings of fabricated items

  • Coordinate with the Equipment Services Department for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of District vehicles

  • Monitor current inventory and coordinate the purchase of parts and supplies as required to ensure sufficient stock levels

  • This position periodically requires fieldwork to perform tasks supporting the Flood Control District

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Protective equipment provided and required

  • Welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots

  • Hearing protection, flame-resistant clothing, and respirators (as needed)

  • Hard hats and other PPE per job site requirements
