Laboratory Technologist Immunopathology and Hematopathology

The Laboratory Tech in the Immunopathology & Hematopathology Laboratory (IHP) is responsible for performing laboratory testing and procedures in designated areas of the laboratory while receiving direction as needed from team members for the reporting of timely and accurate test results.

Our laboratory testing plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric, adult and prenatal conditions. With state-of-the-art laboratory services, facilities and technologies, we support and guide quality patient care across the pediatric spectrum. Our labs offer a wide range of high-quality lab screenings and diagnostic tests with rapid turnaround times, as well as an unmatched scope and capabilities, including diagnostic tests that aren't available anywhere else in the country. The laboratory technologists at each Children's Hospital Colorado lab are specially trained on the intricacies of pediatric laboratory testing, so they can provide the extra level of expertise necessary to help diagnose and treat pediatric illnesses. The Immunopathology & Hematopathology Laboratory analyzes blood, tissue, and bone marrow samples using flow cytometry for cellular immunophenotyping and function to support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders as well as the Clinical Allergy and Immunology Center. Additionally, the laboratory employs immunoassays, such as ELISAs and IFAs, to help diagnose autoimmune and other dysregulations of the immune system.

Additional Information:
Department: Immunopathology & Hematopathology Lab (IHP)
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Day, 8am-5pm. Occasional rotating Saturday and holiday coverage. Upon successful completion of training team members do have the ability to flex their hours/schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for reporting accurate results, evaluating results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.

• Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.

• Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
• Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing and familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
• Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are questionable.
  

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree.

PREFERRED - Previous laboratory and/or sample processing experience.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
