A total of 20 mentors will be hired across the College of Education and Human Sciences major departments - -Department of Special Education -Department of Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences -Department of Individual, Family, and Community Education -Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership and Policy We are seeking applicants who are passionate about becoming a mentor to first-year students in your field of study to support and guide them through their academic and UNM journey. This individual should seek to improve the experience of first-year students at COEHS and UNM. Below are the role and responsibilities of the mentors - -Contribute a minimum of five hours and a maximum of ten hours per week toward the peer mentorship initiative -Provide academic guidance and support to first year peer mentees through active listening, navigating challenges, providing resources, and supporting all efforts towards skill development (writing, research, study skills, etc...) -Attend Peer Mentorship training sessions with COEHS staff -Attend Student Success workshop(s) hosted by the PASS office with your mentee -Attend a meeting with program faculty to review important learning opportunities for pre-major students -Meet with their peer mentees throughout Spring semester with special focus on support during registration for Fall 2026 courses -Participate in Summer Send-Off luncheon and celebration hosted during first two weeks of May 2026 -Serve as ambassador of COEHS and their respective department in COEHS -Submit evaluations and feedback to the COEHS staff and peer mentorship council Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications -Program-admitted to a COEHS undergraduate major Application Instructions Only applications submitted through Updated resume required and professional cover letter that details interest in the Peer Mentor role.
