The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need. JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Resource Development Director, under the direction of the Resource Development Director and the Corps Officers, is responsible for assisting in the execution of strategies and procedures that lead to the overall success of the Corps community outreach, public relations/communications, and volunteer programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Community Outreach
- Serve as spokesperson for The Salvation Army, interpreting its mission, programs, and services to the community when requested.
- Represent The Salvation Army at community activities and meetings, as assigned by the Corps Officer when requested.
- Assist with oversight to publicity and promotional projects used by the Corps, giving recommendations for new ventures to the Corps Officer with assistance from the Metropolitan Divisional Development Department.
- Assist with maintaining all social media, including but not limited to: TSA website, Facebook, and Twitter; increase social media through additional applications.
- Write and distribute press releases and coordinate media coverage of events for the Corps approved by the Corps Officer. Serve as staff liaison for all media outreach when requested.
- Participate in the Community Relations Advisory Board Committee.
- Develop and maintain quarterly newsletter.
- Maintains contact with major donors and develops relationships to cultivate new donors. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits lead gifts.
- Assists in planning and developing special fund-raising and volunteer recognition events
- Develops grant proposals and applies for financial assistance from public and private sectors when requested.
- Keep abreast of changes and innovations in the field of communications through attendance at seminars and workshops, and through active involvement in related professional organizations.
Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit, train, and assist volunteers for our various operations, which include the various special events throughout the year when requested.
- Cultivate community relationships with civic, government, school, and other organizations to develop volunteer base.
- Coordinate with other Salvation Army staff for departmental volunteer needs.
- Will help recruit service clubs, churches, organizations, businesses, and other individuals to volunteer bell ring and track the Register to Ring website for volunteers.
- Will find kettle and bell-ringing site sponsors for the annual Red Kettle Campaign and Match Day.
- Maintain complete volunteer database, using the current Salvation Army volunteer computer program and other software as necessary. Develop all volunteer files for audits or reviews always maintaining confidentiality.
- Help to develop, plan, and implement regular volunteer recognition program, including but not limited to thank you calls, thank you notes, recognition events, media, etc.
- Ensure compliance of Salvation Army volunteer management policies and procedures.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Education: Minimum of two years of college education or its equivalent, a BA or BS is preferred.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years' experience in providing support to a fundraising department.
- Extensive experience with computer-based systems.
- An exposure to social services and faith-based multi-site organizations is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License and MVR clearance, or ability to travel to multiple sites.
JOB LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Corps Officers informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do light physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
- Will be required to regularly drive to Salvation Army Corps and Institutions.
- The work environment for this position is an office environment with a low to moderate noise level.

- Excellent oral and creative communication skills.
- A background in the principles of fundraising, volunteerism, and marketing.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office; email - Microsoft Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) a plus.
- A working knowledge of social media apps including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
- A working knowledge of digital/web publishing/blogging.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- This position reports to the Resource Development Director, as well as the Corps Officers, works closely with all members of the Elgin Corps team and is supported by the Executive Director of Development and Communications along with the Metropolitan Divisional Development Department.
- This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army. In contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
- This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals along with overall departmental goals.
