Job Summary:

The Medical Director of the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit will provide strategic and operational medical leadership and direction for patients admitted to the unit, working collaboratively with Heart Institute Leadership, representatives from Quality/Patient Safety, Process Improvement, Clinical Effectiveness, Pharmacy other relevant ancillary department leaders (such as respiratory therapy, nutrition, etc.), Specialty Specific Business Managers and Service Line Administrator, and the Medical Staff/Providers. The Medical Director will be a champion of the Quadruple Aim and of CHCO initiatives, specifically regarding quality and safety, ensuring equitable and accessible care, and advancing care through research and quality improvement projects.

Scope of responsibility will include practice management, operational efficiency, business development, delivery of outstanding faculty, patient and referring provider service, and will support research and education for the clinical program. The Medical Director will be a key member of the Heart Institute leadership team and will participate in strategic discussions and operational planning for the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

* The Director of the CPCU will work with the Director of Inpatient Cardiology for the Heart Institute (H.I.) to optimize clinical operations of the CPCU

* Will work collaboratively with Departmental, CHCO, and H.I. leadership, to develop and operationalize growth strategies and priorities for their program.

* Will partner with the clinical leadership and the Quality Department in developing and instituting evidence-based best practice, implementing patient quality and safety initiatives and in evaluating for best patient outcomes as appropriate.

* Partners with Nursing and other Clinical leadership in the development of program specific educational tools and in training of staff to optimize patient care and outcomes.

* Will review patient satisfaction scores for the program, when applicable, and develop and implement strategies for improvement.

* Will partner with the Clinical Application Systems Department regarding optimization of EPIC for program specific issues.

* Will work with CHCO Physician Relations to meet the needs of community referring providers and develop program specific materials.

* Will embrace the CHCO Standards of Behavior and other Policies and hold clinic providers accountable.

* Will partner with Hospital Department Chair (Section/Divisional Chief) to advance research and education mission related to their program.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Professor:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

  • Board Certified in Pediatrics.

  • Board Eligible/Certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

  • Current Colorado Medical license.

  • Inpatient acute cardiology or cardiac critical care experience.

  • A DEA license is required to prescribe any medications.

  • Current certification in basic life support (BLS) and ability to obtain pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and ACLS.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care or Acute Care Unit.

  • Experience in the management of complex cardiac and congenital heart disease patients across the lifespan.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary cardiac inpatient team.

  • Acute care cardiology expertise including management of complex post-operative and medical pediatric and adult congenital heart disease patients.

  • Must be able to be professional, flexible, and collaborative.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Strong Leadership Skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Professor: $418,975-$461,024

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
