About the Job

As a member of the Dean's Office team for the UMD College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), the Marketing and Communications Assistant contributes to the internal and external communication efforts of all areas of the college. Focusing on visual and written storytelling, the Marketing and Communications Assistant will serve as a resource across CAHSS in the areas of photo/video creation and digital platform management with particular attention to digital accessibility and brand cohesion. The person in this position works to align efforts and collaborate with the University Marketing and Public Relations (UMPR) team.

The selected candidate will be expected to work on the UMD campus.

VISUAL CONTENT CREATION (50%)
* Captures event and campus life photography.
* Takes promotional and production photos for all Theatre productions, excluding Stage 2 and Lab Series productions.
* Takes annual group photos for Music ensembles.
* Gathers and edits photos and video for content across digital platforms.
* Approves digital sign submissions from CAHSS departments with attention to brand coherence.
* Edits graphic design assets from existing digital and print templates.
* Manages CAHSS digital assets in accordance with university standards and processes.

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT (20%)
* Updates CAHSS website by changing out imagery, news, and events.
* Writes brief stories for the CAHSS news section.
* Serves as a resource for CAHSS departments and centers as they perform day-to-day web activities.
* Approves LiveWhale event submissions from CAHSS departments with attention to consistency.
* Is the college's primary resource for implementing Title II digital accessibility standards.
* Creates analytics dashboards and provides reports about site usage.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT (20%)
* Helps plan and post content to CAHSS social media accounts.
* Serves as the primary community manager for CAHSS accounts.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (5%)
* If needed, obtains training to meet preferred qualifications.
* Stays up to date with latest trends, developments, and best practices in social media, Adobe Creative Cloud products, Drupal web content management, and all areas relevant to the role.

OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGNED (5%)

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 4 years
* Applicants are expected to attached a portfolio to their application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Previous experience working in higher education and/or the fine arts.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite products including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
* Able to work within the parameters of an existing brand.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
* Has availability for event photography on evenings and weekends.
* Thrives in a highly collaborative environment.
* Previous experience working with web content management systems.
* Experience maintaining social media accounts for organizations or institutions.
* Proficiency with camera equipment and video and photo editing software.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.66/hr. - $29.28/hr. ($45,052 - $60,902 annually); depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
