UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual (UHC E&I) is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Controllership team. This role focuses on accounting and reporting for the rapidly growing Stop Loss business. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for accurate and timely month-end close activities, financial analysis, and compliance with applicable accounting standards. Solid communication skills are essential for collaborating across teams and presenting financial insights effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate problem-solving ability, leadership in driving process improvements, and a proactive approach to supporting business growth. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities to produce accurate financial statements and reports
  • Responsible for maintaining integrity of Subsidiary ledger [Electronic Stop Loss] and manual integration to Peoplesoft
  • Reconcile, analyze, and review general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy during month-end close
  • Payment and tracking of all ERR, Commission and Claim payments on UMR and non UMR block
  • Oversight for all premium invoicing and collection activities
  • Prepare journal entries and verify accounting classifications in compliance with GAAP
  • Develop and maintain documentation to support internal and external audits
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis, investigating issues and providing clear explanations and interpretations
  • Analyze and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial position
  • Assist with or lead month-end and quarterly close processes for assigned business units
  • Work independently on complex, less structured issues, demonstrating solid problem-solving skills
  • Serve as a resource and provide guidance to team members, exhibiting leadership and collaboration
  • Works closely with UMR Stop Loss Marketing, Treasury, Billing and A/R
  • Responsible for JE's Account Recons, forecasting and other accounting duties as requested

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of professional accounting experience
  • Proven solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation
  • Ability to assess and interpret business needs and requirements effectively
  • Experience in identifying solutions for non-standard requests and resolving moderately complex issues
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities for moderately complex analyses
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain solid working relationships across the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare experience
  • Experience with SAS and/or Fin360
  • Experience with Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft Financials

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 to $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
