As an Unarmed Patrol Officer at a shelter location, you will monitor and patrol assigned areas, conduct routine rounds, and maintain a visible presence that may help to reduce security-related incidents. You will greet residents and visitors, respond to questions and concerns, document observations, and communicate clearly with site staff. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to residents, guests, staff, and visitors by carrying out security-related procedures, location-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities in a shelter environment.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including disputes, medical calls, welfare concerns, and other resident or visitor issues, and request assistance when needed.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of the facility, common areas, entrances, parking areas, and perimeter to help to deter unwanted activity and to identify unusual conditions.
  • Control access to the location by monitoring entrances, screening visitors per site procedures, verifying authorization as required, and directing individuals to appropriate areas.
  • Monitor and report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and prohibited items or activities, and take appropriate actions consistent with post orders.
  • Document and report daily activities, incidents, and observations in required reports, including maintaining accurate shift logs and completing incident reports.
  • Interact with residents in a professional, respectful manner, helping to de-escalate tense situations through communication and conflict-management techniques.
  • Support staff with crowd control and orderly movement during busy periods such as meal times, intake hours, and service distribution.
  • Perform routine checks of doors, locks, lighting, and other conditions, and promptly report maintenance concerns or hazards to site management.
  • Operate communication equipment such as phones and radios, and coordinate with on-site personnel and local public responders when appropriate.
  • Follow all site-specific post orders, Allied Universal policies, and client instructions while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Assist with emergency response activities such as evacuations, severe weather procedures, and medical response notifications as directed by site procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • A guard card/license is preferred.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
