SALARY $29.45 - $46.72 POSITION SUMMARY Schedules and controls shop production through proper scheduling of work, routing of material to and from the shops, and monitors unit exchange credits. Qualifications
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Receives and evaluates Skokie Shops Contract Releases from Warehouse Operations for Unit Exchange items. * Provides release/work order information to appropriate Foremen and Leaders. * Reviews completed shop order materials to ensure completeness and correctness against stores releases. * Prepares labels and shipping papers to dock to the warehouses of all completed materials. * Arranges for shipment to the warehouses or locations of completed materials to ensure flow of completed unit exchange and shop produced items. * Maintains shop production logs and other records and reports manually or via personal computers. * Verifies and investigates any missing dock to stock materials to ensure correctness and correct docking. * Investigates and secures material that is urgently needed to meet production schedules, including check request processing. * Confers with Shop Foreman regarding production schedules, material needs and other matters concerning production supplies and flows. * Develops, maintains and analyzes statistical data on shop productivity, (e.g. average labor hours per unit and utilizes data to aid in the scheduling process and computing cost of repaired or shop manufactured material). * Maintains cost estimates for unit exchange items and ensures correct costs on the shop contracts. * Performs related duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to this position are the following jobs: Job Title * CHALLENGES * EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Must be knowledgeable of the Oracle inventory control system used by Warehouse Operations. * Required to perform the physical activities associated with this position. * Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to competently operate mainframe and personal computer systems using standard software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Oracle, etc. * Required to possess a combination of education and experience relating to this position. * Must have prior experience in the identification and handling of rail vehicle parts stored by the Unit Exchange or Stores Warehouse. * Will be trained to use the new MMIS system for work orders and labor tracking of all shop activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Must lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds. * Required to do a considerable amount of walking. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Must possess a general understanding of the repair and rebuilding operations in the shops. * Required to understand the procedures, terminology, and functions of the various shop areas at assigned work locations. * Must be proficient in the use of arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals. * Required to possess a suitable temperament and disposition to maintain good working relationships with shops personnel. * Must write and express oneself in a clear, logical, and understandable manner. WORKING CONDITIONS * Usual shop working conditions. * Works with materials encased with grease and dirt. * Exposed to varying weather conditions in dock area. * Exposed to noise, dust, moving vehicles, and other conditions of shop areas.
