State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Materials Technology is currently recruiting for a Senior Pavement Marking Technician (Transportation Engineering Technician V) in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of Work: This position reports directly to the Field Quality Assurance (FQA) Team Leader. The Senior Pavement Marking Technician will function as the senior technical level to lead testing/inspection activities for the Pavement Marking FQA Team. This position will receive guidance from the FQA Team Leader and the Assistant Division Chief (ADC) in the Structural Materials and Pavement Marking Division but will be expected to conduct tasks with little or no assistance. The main purpose of the position is to provide direction and guidance to project engineers, lower-level technicians, contractors, and manufacturers.

This position will be responsible for the following duties: reviewing contractor's quality control testing results for accuracy and compliance with standards/specifications; coordinating and reviewing pavement marking evaluation testing on materials applied by SHA maintenance crews and maintenance contractors to ensure product quality, service, and compliance with contract compliance; inspecting the maintenance of traffic lane closures to assure the traffic control plan meets MUTCD standards and is adequate to provide necessary protection of workers and the traveling public; and maintaining, performing and scheduling calibration of pavement marking testing instruments.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Selective Qualification: One (1) year experience in performing construction inspections, field data collection and analysis, quality assurance lab testing, or pavement marking inspections.

*This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

* Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and/or Access

* Experience in contract management

* Experience with partnering or customer service

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.

2. Applicants who possess an associate degree in either engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the eight-year experience requirement.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

Candidate will need to obtain the MARTCP Pavement Marking Certification within one (1) year of employment.
