Job Title : Tax Preparer
Location: Hartford, WI
Employment Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $25.00 - $50.00 / hour - based off of experience
Position Summary
We are a small CPA firm seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Tax Preparer to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and timely tax returns for individuals and small businesses while delivering excellent client service. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, especially during tax season.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for:
    • Individuals (1040s)
    • Small businesses (Schedule C, partnerships, S-Corps, and C-Corps, as applicable)
  • Gather, organize, and analyze client tax documents and financial records
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure compliance with current tax laws
  • Communicate with clients to obtain missing information and clarify tax-related questions
  • Utilize tax preparation software and firm systems to complete returns efficiently
  • Assist with tax planning, extensions, amendments, and notices as needed
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized client files
  • Collaborate with CPAs and firm leadership to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Stay current on tax law changes and best practices
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of tax preparation experience
  • Strong knowledge of individual and small business tax returns
  • Familiarity with IRS regulations and state tax requirements
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, ProSeries, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, especially during peak tax season
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a CPA firm or public accounting environment
  • EA certification or CPA (or progress toward either)
  • Experience with tax planning and advisory services
  • Client-facing experience with a strong service mindset
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to work extended hours during tax season as needed
