The Wythe Lab has an open position for a postdoctoral research associate to manage research projects, train junior scientists, and help maintain a dynamic laboratory environment. We attack biological questions on multiple fronts, using gold standard genetic models-such as the mouse and zebrafish, cutting edge imaging techniques (lightsheet, micro-CT), genome-wide analyses (both bulk RNA-seq and scRNA-seq, as well as ATAC-seq, etc), and classical biochemistry to solve key problems in cardiovascular development and disease. Current projects are focused on vascular biology in malignant brain cancer (glioma) and vascular anomalies within the brain. In this exciting role, you are a highly motivated and well-organized individual with excellent skills in problem solving, hypothesis development and testing, writing and scientific communication, and experience in standard molecular and genetic techniques centered on a model organism (mouse, zebrafish, fly, or yeast). Those with limited animal model skills, but solid foundations in biochemistry with cell culture experience are also encouraged to apply. Bioinformatics knowledge is particularly useful, but not a prerequisite. We are interested in not only the transcriptional regulation of cardiovascular differentiation and development, but in cell signaling pathways as well, and how these intersect to regulate vascular-related diseases within the brain. You will be working in a high energy and cooperative atmosphere to ensure a fluid working environment, oversee and direct specific research projects and manage individuals where needed. Your efforts will be critical to achieve the group's goals of understanding the genetic and molecular events that give rise to a functional cardiovascular system. We'll reward your passion, skills and hard work with the opportunity to present your data at national and/or international meetings, as well as local seminars. Meetings are great opportunities for professional networking and we'll afford you those options on an annual basis (or more, depending on your securement of additional funding-i.e. training grants). Trainees will be expected to create figures, craft talks and manuscripts, and submit training grant proposals for internal and external funding. We will dedicate time for formal coursework to enhance your knowledge base, and we'll commit to rigorous mentoring/training on scientific presentation and writing skills, and will rabidly encourage any career path (academic, industry, education) that appeals to you. This position offers excellent benefits, a competitive salary, and an outstanding research environment. Minimum Requirements Preferred Skills: Experience: Genetics (as well as cre/lox technology, CRISPR/Cas9, transgenes, etc) Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
