THE ROLE

In this role you will drive the evolution of our firmware ecosystem by evaluating current capabilities, enhancing performance, and contributing to new feature development. Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you will ensure seamless firmware integration across our products.

THE PERSON

We are looking for a Firmware System Design Engineer to design and implement secure, resilient firmware solutions while collaborating closely with hardware, software, and security teams to ensure tightly integrated and secure system architecture.

Your passion for firmware and system integrity will help shape the direction of firmware security within the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A core responsibility is diagnosing and resolving complex firmware and system-level issues. You will apply advanced debugging techniques to quickly identify root causes and improve product reliability.

  • Support the definition and implementation of firmware security requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate secure features across platforms.
  • Build productive partnerships within the technology ecosystem to strengthen security capabilities.
  • Assist in the design, optimization, testing, and validation of security systems.
  • Engage with stakeholders and contribute to effective communication across teams.
  • Develop scripts, tools, and methodologies to enhance security validation processes.
  • Support debugging of security issues during bring-up, validation, and production phases.
  • Participate in security feature validation to ensure timely and robust delivery.
  • Develop security features based on program requirements

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Strong expertise in system-level programming and hardware-software interaction is essential.
  • Recent semiconductor industry experience, with at least five years in system engineering and security.
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting (C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
  • Strong debugging methods and familiarity with lab equipment (protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Experience with board- and platform-level debugging and optimization.
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, validation strategies, and security technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to independently drive tasks.
  • Understanding of PC system-level security impacts and user experience considerations.
  • Ability to translate security requirements into firmware and software solutions.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Austin, TX or Markham, Ontario, Canada
