The Lead Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for assisting the Quality Assurance Manager with the day-to-day tasks of the quality program in the plant. The primary responsibility is to assure final products meet the company's quality standards and adhere to customer specifications

Compensation: $25 - 28/hr, depending on experience.


Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and mentor QA Techs to operate proactively.
  • Ensure QA Techs perform audits, review retains, collect data, and communicate professionally.
  • Build analytical and investigative skills within the QA team.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, proactivity, and professional communication.
  • Oversee operational SQF compliance, including audits, process adherence, and documentation.
  • Identify gaps and escalate trends or issues to the Quality Manager.
  • Serve as SQF-certified backup for the Quality Manager.
  • Accurately enter quality complaints into the system.
  • Gather all required information and documentation for investigations.
  • Prepare cases for Quality Manager review, approval, or escalation.
  • Lead operational aspects of investigations, including fact collection and coordination with department managers.
  • Ensure investigations are fully documented.
  • Escalate high-risk or complex cases to the Quality Manager for final decision-making or customer engagement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track CAPAs from initiation to completion and verify effectiveness.
  • Escalate complex or recurring issues to the Quality Manager.
  • Monitor GMPs, process compliance, traceability, and operator-collected retains.
  • Identify potential risks and quality gaps before they escalate.
  • Analyze data and trends to anticipate issues and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate professionally with QA Techs, operations, and leadership.
  • Provide the Quality Manager with all information needed for strategic decision-making.
  • Act as the operational bridge between QA Techs and management.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (Food Science, Quality, Engineering, or related field)
  • SQF Certification Level 2 or higher preferred
  • Experience managing QA or quality teams in a manufacturing or food environment
  • Minimum 3-5 years in QA/QC in food manufacturing (flexible packaging preferred).
  • Experience with SQF, GMPs, or BRC standards.
  • Strong computer skills: Excel, databases, QMS systems, and basic reporting tools.
  • Proven problem-solving and investigative skills (root cause analysis, trend analysis).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience - ability to coach and develop a team.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to prioritize tasks effectively.
