QualCore partners with Duke clinicians and faculty to conduct qualitative research as part of their behavioral, clinical, implementation science, and health services research. QualCore consists of faculty, doctorate and masters-level interviewers and analysts, and research assistants. Faculty advise on how to design and conduct rigorous qualitative research relevant to the investigator's specific study aims; interviewers conduct interviews and focus group discussions; and analysts organize, critically examine, summarize, and disseminate the qualitative findings. QualCore interviewers and analysts also provide capacity-building training to investigators and their staff on qualitative interviewing and analysis. QualCore team members use a flexible approach to accommodate the dynamic nature of qualitative data collection, and are experts in a variety of qualitative research methods, including in-person, telephone, or web-based data collection; one-on-one in-depth interviews (e.g., qualitative description, concept elicitation, cognitive interviewing); dyadic interviews; focus group discussions; Photovoice; and domains inquiry (free-listing, pile sorting, and ranking). Examples of health conditions and topics of current QualCore partner studies include HIV, lupus, the opioid epidemic, health disparities research, and the quality and efficacy of clinical trials. Minimum Requirements:

Eligible candidates should have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in any of the following areas by the time of the appointment: qualitative research methodology, applied anthropology, sociology, health behavior, population health sciences, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a strong qualitative research background, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in designing, implementing, analyzing, and disseminating qualitative research studies. Preference will be given to candidates who have training as a qualitative methodologist and expertise in mixed-methods research.

Position Description:

QualCore seeks a postdoctoral associate to work closely with Dr. Amy Corneli, Director of the QualCore, Kevin McKenna, Operational Director of QualCore, and other members of QualCore on implementing QualCore's team-based approach to research partnerships. The scope of work involves serving as a qualitative methodologist and providing expert guidance to clinical and other faculty on designing qualitative research (e.g., type of qualitative research and methods, sample size and sampling, question guide development, type of analysis) and serving as a project leader on the implementation, analysis, and write up of qualitative studies.

The position is for one year with an option to renew for two years total depending on funding and achievement. The work environment is a hybrid approach with both in-person and virtual engagements. Candidates must move/live near Duke University (e.g., Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh).
