Waymo
$175,000—$221,000 USD
United States, D.C., Washington
Feb 12, 2026

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver-The World's Most Experienced Driver-to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

The Waymo Policy and Government Affairs team has a front seat in this exciting moment in the evolution of autonomous driving technology, transportation and tech policy. Successful navigation of the policy landscape is critically important to deploying and scaling our business. Our team works directly with policymakers and third party groups at the national, state and local levels to help advance transportation policy, educate on the safety benefits of the technology, and advance consumer awareness and acceptance. Internally, our efforts support the innovative work of engineering, product, strategy, and partnerships teams, and we work closely with highly-skilled legal and safety experts.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule (DC or NYC) and reports to the lead for Policy Strategy and Operations. You will be the primary lead for organizing and executing all East Coast engagement experiences, serving as a face of Waymo for federal regulators, diplomats, and state- and local-level officials.

You will:

  • Architect and lead the end-to-end strategic advance and execution for high-stakes showcases involving Federal leadership (WH, DOT, NHTSA), Congressional delegations, international dignitaries, and other officials in or visiting the East Coast.
  • Serve as the primary "site lead" for Policy's East Coast engagements, managing on-site principal movements and acting as the direct liaison for government security details (Secret Service, Diplomatic Security).
  • Translate complex autonomous vehicle technology into a compelling hands-on narrative for the world's most influential non-technical policymakers.
  • Partner with Policy Leads to design high-impact, bespoke agendas that proactively address stakeholder concerns and advance Waymo's regional license to operate.
  • Establish operational frameworks for excellence in new and emerging East Coast markets, ensuring every engagement is strategically messaged and flawlessly executed.
  • Manage high-stakes principal briefings, dossiers, and logistics-including secure transportation and technical support-to ensure Waymo executives are set up for success in critical meetings.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in executive/political advance, government protocol, or high-stakes field operations.
  • Unwavering operational resilience: proven ability to thrive in a high-tempo environment, managing high-pressure situations with poise and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Expertise in principal management: The ability to brief and move high-ranking officials and C-suite executives with absolute precision and discretion.
  • Demonstrated experience in no-fail environments, collaborating effectively with law enforcement or government security apparatuses.
  • Deep experience working with U.S. Federal government officials and/or international diplomatic delegations.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a focus on executive-level briefing materials.

We prefer:

  • Direct experience in White House Advance, Department of State (Protocol), or a senior Congressional office.
  • Existing network or familiarity with East Coast venues and government facility protocols.
  • Experience translating highly technical hardware/software products into compelling hands-on stories for non-technical policymakers.
