What You'll Do:

  • Lead and actively support the Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) process through participation in meetings, observations, coaching, and mentoring to strengthen site safety culture.
  • Provide safety expertise during TapRoot investigations, safety reviews, audits, and compliance meetings to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Recommend improvements and modifications to safety systems, SOPs, site policies, and PPE programs to enhance employee and contractor protection.
  • Accompany and document OSHA/MSHA, insurance, and other formal inspections, ensuring regulatory compliance and timely resolution of findings.
  • Deliver MSHA/OSHA compliance training and site-specific instruction to employees, contractors, and visitors in alignment with the site training plan.
  • Conduct continuous field-based training on auditing standards, Nutrien guidance documents, Tier Standards, and area-specific SOPs to reinforce practical application and understanding.
  • Coach and mentor employees and contractors on sustainable safe work habits, proper job planning, and adherence to SHE policies and corporate standards.
  • Support management in achieving safety performance expectations by promoting a positive SHE culture and leading by example.
  • Analyze safety system data, including incident reports, KPS metrics, and SHE work orders, to identify trends and implement timely corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) elements and maintain required documentation for OSHA, MSHA, ETQ, and contractor management systems.
  • Assist in incident investigations, emergency response activities, crisis communication drills, and industrial hygiene programs (audiometric, pulmonary, and fit testing).
  • Conduct contractor safety audits and meetings, provide performance feedback, and collaborate with contractors to align safety efforts with site and corporate objectives.

What You'll Bring:

  • High School Diploma is required. Associate degree or 2-year Technical Degree and higher is preferred.
  • 5-7 years' experience in the petro-chemical industry is preferred; others may be considered.
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) certification is preferred.
  • Through work experience qualified candidates will be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a chemical plant.
  • Possess the ability to lead and influence employees/contractors.
  • General business computer application skills required (Microsoft Office, typing, Safety related research)
  • Ability to assess safety programs and make recommendations to the Safety Manager for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to develop working knowledge of Corporate and site safety programs and policies/procedures.
  • Ability to conduct audits and deliver training, as required.
  • Motivation and ability to obtain Professional Safety Certifications
  • Experience with incident investigations is preferred.
