The Position
Shermco Systems Integration is seeking a Project Engineer to steer on-site instrumentation and controls projects from mobilization to project closeout. You will be the primary point of accountability for project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring high-quality execution while maintaining an unwavering focus on safety and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:

* Review and understand detailed project documents, including scope of work, installation specifications, project schedule, project deliverables, Schedule of Values, and milestones
* Coordinate project activities between the office and the site, manage project schedules, resolve scope issues, and ensure compliance with budget and technical specifications.
* Review and understand detailed engineering packages, and approve I&C deliverables including: P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), loop diagrams, instrument data sheets, I/O lists, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, pull schedules, checkout documentation, control narratives, etc.
* Review, select, and/or specify process instrumentation (sensors, transmitters, actuators) and control hardware (PLCs, HMI, VFDs).
* Prepare material submittals/requisitions, perform technical bid evaluations, and manage vendor coordination for instruments and control hardware.
* Perform on-site review and oversee installation activities, loop checks, startup, and commissioning of control systems, to ensure all specifications are met. Provide technical support during commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
* Collaborate with project managers, construction managers, and other engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) and liaise with clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure project milestones and requirements are met.
* Participate in 3D model reviews (BIM) and perform quality checks on construction drawings to ensure accuracy.
* Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs and installations meet applicable industry codes and standards (e.g., ISA, NEC, NFPA, IEEE) and uphold EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) regulations.
* Establish/Maintain behaviors that demonstrate Safety as a Personal Core Value.
* Other duties as needed or assigned by Management



Qualifications

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
* Professional Engineering (PE) License is desired or preferred.
* 3-6+ years of experience in I&C design, commissioning, or project engineering in a relevant industry (e.g., Oil & Gas, Water/Wastewater, Power, Manufacturing)
* Detailed, hands-on knowledge of PLC/DCS control systems, SCADA, and industrial networks.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar.
* Highly proficient computer skills; including MS Business Central, Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, and Internet search skills
* Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Must be flexible and willing to travel for extended site visits and commissioning support, per diem reimbursements available.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver within budget and schedule constraints.
* Ability to work safely, and an eagerness to contribute to a safety-focused team.
* Professional in appearance and attitude both internally and with the public
* Able to work in a fast-paced, self-directed entrepreneurial environment
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with clients, vendors, and contractors.

Other Requirements:

* Strong preference for individuals who are able and willing to demonstrate their personal commitment to Safety.
* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
* Should be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam when required
* Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
* Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

* Must have a valid driver's license and currently have (and be able to maintain) a good driving record.
* Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer-sponsored visa (work permit).
* Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
