Scope of Work

This position performs technical work of moderate difficulty in setting up and retrieving sampling equipment in support of the industrial pretreatment program, collecting and preserving samples, and performing standard chemical and bacteriological tests. Rotating weekend coverage with Lab Techs.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Collects pretreatment samples from significant industry users and performs set up for analysis by laboratories.
  2. Analyzes wastewater samples following standard established methods as needed during weekdays and weekend rotations.
  3. Maintains sampling equipment and purchases pretreatment supplies.
  4. Conducts monitoring related to odor issues in the collections system.
  5. Provides help as needed for ground water infiltration and flow capacity of WWTP studies.
  6. Monitors septic haulers; collects random samples; pre-inspects new sample sources to reduce oil loads coming to the pretreatment plant.
  7. Monitors water meter reading for billings as needed.
  8. Schedules, collects and packs WWTP samples to be analyzed by private laboratories.
  9. Monitors WWTP lift stations to reduce potential oil and grease build up in the system as issues arise.
  10. Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, utensils and facilities.
  11. Makes computations, prepares reports, and keeps records relating to sampling and tests performed.
  12. Assists with troubleshooting and maintaining the septage receiving station.
  13. Assists with sewer incident investigations such as spill and grease backups.
  14. Schedules and conducts groundwater and gas monitoring for various City projects, including quarterly samples for the West Ave Landfill
  15. Manages and inspects grease traps/interceptors.
  16. Communicates with Food Service Establishments regarding proper record keeping, consistent grease cleaning schedules, and providing preventative maintenance procedures.
  17. Attends wastewater seminars and other training opportunities related to pretreatment.
  18. Familiarizes with the DNR Plant Permit and local regulations pertaining to the plant's collection system.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Necessary Special Requirements

Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
