Overview

A global biopharmaceutical company on a mission to Solve On, Incyte follows science to find solutions for patients with unmet medical needs. Through the discovery, development, and commercialization of proprietary therapeutics, Incyte hasestablisheda portfolio of first-in-class medicines for patients and a strong pipeline of products in Hematology,Oncologyand Inflammation & Autoimmunity.

Headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, Incyte has operations in North America, Europe, and Asia.

This11-week summer internship is designed forseniorundergraduate, Master's, or PhD studentsseeking exposure to a professional, corporate environment. The internship is project-based, with each intern assigned one clearly defined project aligned to the hosting department's priorities.

The role emphasizes learning, skill development, and practical application of academic knowledge while contributing to meaningful work.

Internship Overview:

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a group of blood cancers that arise from genetic mutations in hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow. These mutations drive excessive production of mature blood cells and, in some patients, can lead to transformation into acute myeloid leukemia (AML),a highly aggressivedisease with poor prognosis.

Current frontline therapies, such as JAK/STAT inhibitors, can help manage symptoms but do noteliminatethe underlying disease. As a result, there is a critical need for next-generation, disease-modifying therapies that selectively target malignant cells while sparing healthy blood cells.

At Incyte, our research focus is to develop innovative therapeutic strategies that precisely target neoplastic MPN cells and improve outcomes for patients.

This internship will focus on the development and execution of cell-based assays to evaluate next-generationlarge and small molecules thatselectivelyinhibit the pathogenicJAK/STATsignaling. The intern will:

  • Identifyand work with cell lines carrying disease-relevant genetic mutations

  • Optimizecell culture conditions to support medium- to high-throughput screening assays

  • Evaluate both small- and large-moleculesfor biological activity

  • Perform functional assays using hematopoietic cells from healthy donors and MPN patients to assess compound effects on normal versus disease-associated blood cell differentiation

These studies will employ advanced technologies including flow cytometry and mass cytometry (CyTOF), providing hands-on exposure tocutting-edgetools widely used in biomedical research and drug discovery.

Learning Opportunities

The intern will gain practical experience in disease-relevant biological models and modern laboratory techniques, contributing directly to the development of novel therapeutic approaches for patients with unmet medical needs.
