This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.

As part of a small, passionate, and highly accomplished communications leadership team, this role will lead a team of internal and external communicatorsresponsible for shaping how Blue Origin communicates with its employees, partners, customers, and broader stakeholders.

This leader will set the strategy, direction, and operating model for integrated communications-ensuring alignment across external and internal communications, partnering with business unit leaders to develop an integrated communications strategy. The role blends strategic leadership, team management, and hands-on execution, and plays a critical role in connecting stakeholders to Blue Origin's mission, business priorities, and progress.

This position has direct impact on how Blue Origin scales-culturally and operationally-as the company advances safe, repeatable spaceflight and expands into new programs and markets. The role reports to the VP of Marketing and Communications.

Responsibilities: External Communications Leadership
  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of integrated external communications in support of Blue Origin's business priorities, major programs, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Partner closely with program, business, and executive leadership to shape clear, credible narratives for external stakeholders including media, customers, partners, and industry influencers.
  • Ensure proactive alignment between external communications, public announcements, and internal messaging so employees are informed, aligned, and equipped ahead of external moments.
  • Provide strategic counsel on external positioning, reputational risk, and narrative tradeoffs in high-visibility or fast-moving situations.
Integrated Narrative & Message Architecture
  • Own the development of core narratives, messaging frameworks, and positioning that connect external storytelling with internal understanding and executive intent (in partnership with executive and enterprise communications leaders).
  • Establish an integrated communications operating model that aligns internal, executive, and external communications around a single source of truth.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, and business developments into cohesive stories that resonate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure message discipline and consistency across channels, spokespeople, and audiences.
Content, Channels & Campaigns
  • Guide development of high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content that supports external storytelling while reinforcing internal alignment.
  • Oversee editorial planning and content calendars that integrate external moments with internal communications channels.
  • Ensure internal platforms and channels are leveraged to prepare employees for external communications and enable them to act as informed ambassadors.
Measurement, Insight & Readiness
  • Define, track, and report on KPIs across integrated communications efforts, including external reach, narrative pull-through, and internal engagement.
  • Monitor external environment, industry trends, and emerging issues to inform communications strategy and proactive planning.
  • Lead communications readiness for major milestones, launches, and announcements, including coordination across Business and Functional teams.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of internal and external communicators, fostering strong collaboration, clarity of roles, and shared accountability.
  • Partner closely with colleagues across Communications, Marketing, Creative, and Subject Matter Expertteams to deliver coordinated, high-impact communications.
  • Work effectively with teams across Kent, West Texas, Cape Canaveral, Huntsville, and Washington, D.C., ensuring geographic and functional alignment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in communications, including leadership roles overseeing teams and complex programs.
  • Proven experience leading both internal and external communicationsor operating in highly integrated communications environments.
  • Strong content strategy and content development expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex technical or operational topics into clear, compelling messages.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and operating with high judgment in fast-moving, high-stakes environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively under deadlines and in periods of rapid change.
  • Proficiency with multimedia storytelling (graphics, video, photography).
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to move quickly using the best available information.
  • High energy, strong ownership mindset, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Passion for the space industry and Blue Origin's mission.
Desired:
  • Experience applying change management principles in complex or growing organizations.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and comfort operating in ambiguous, evolving environments.
  • External focus and understanding of industry dynamics, competitive landscape, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Newsroom, agency, or corporate communications experience in aerospace, technology, energy, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Experience building or scaling communications teams and operating models.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
