SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the System Director of Professional Practice, the Nursing Communications Specialist is responsible for upholding the integrity and brand standards developed for all Brown University Health nursing communications. The person in this role ensures that nursing communication deliverables are developed and disseminated in a timely fashion and confidentially as needed. Working closely with nursing staff, nursing leadership, and representatives from Brown Health Internal Communications and Marketing,this individual will help execute communication plans by coordinating stakeholders and tracking progress. This position will support the planning, implementation, and coordination of documents for certification, accreditation, and nursing excellence designations. The ideal candidate will have experience in communications and project management, computer and web-based technical skills, including familiarity with web content management systems. They will be able to function effectively as an integral member of a dynamic nursing department. The individual in this position must be an excellent writer and editor, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, have experience with building effective partnerships, and possess exceptional organizational, operational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Responsibilities include:
- Serves as the point person for nursing communications by working closely with representatives from Internal Communications & Marketing to ensure brand alignment and consistency across all nursing communication materials
- Creates, writes, edits, and disseminatesa wide range of content for the nursing department inclusive of the system, entity, department, and unit level, including, but not limited to:
- e-newsletters, website content, social media posts, staff meetings, email communication, event flyers/posters, infographics, written materials associated with program applications, conference submissions, etc.
- Works with nursing staff to develop, edit, and ensure brand consistency in patient-centeredmaterials created by units/clinics (I.e. educational or informational brochures, handouts, videos etc.)
- Works with external vendors as needed to create content (I.e. Brown-approved graphic designers, videographers, etc.)
- Serves as the primary contact for internal stakeholders seeking to edit/develop content for the Brown Nursing intranet pages on the hospital's intranet site
- Supports nursing professional governance committees and councils in communications initiatives (I.e. promoting Nursing award winners, providing communication guidance in projects, serving on a committee or council that has many communications needs, such as a Communication Council)
- Provides input on the strategic nursing-level use of internal communications vehicles, including but not limited to: intranets, newsletters, digital signage, and videos.
- Builds positive and collaborative relationships with a wide variety of staff at all levels of the organization.
- Measures and evaluates communications deliverables, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and/or incorporation of relevant new technologies
- Stays up to date on national trends and best practices in internal communications and employee engagement
- Maintains confidentiality with communications as required by the leadership team
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Hard Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, with degree(s) in communications, journalism, marketing, or related areas preferable
- Internship experience preferred
- Excellent writing and editing skills, as demonstrated by writing samples
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Strong project management and time management skills
- Basic video editing skills preferred but not required

Programs/Technology
- Knowledge ofthe Microsoft Office Suite and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledge of web content management systems desired (I.e. SharePoint, WordPress, etc.)
- Understanding of various social media platforms (I.e. Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook)
