DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Maintenance Department, specifically within the Line Painting Section, to ensure that pavement markings align with the Department's goals and objectives. Your responsibilities will include operating a truck-mounted highway pavement-marking machine, where you will perform various tasks associated with its operation. Prior to commencing work, you will conduct essential safety checks on the assigned equipment, inspecting fluids, tires, lights, hoses, and gauges. This involves making visual assessments, executing manual adjustments, and documenting your findings either verbally or in writing as required. You will be responsible for mounting the equipment and skillfully operating a range of hand and foot controls.
Additionally, you will utilize a remote pavement line paint gun to apply single and double paint lines accurately, while continuously monitoring pressure gauges, meters, and other indicators throughout the process. Operating the paint truck in traffic will require you to maintain steady speeds to ensure proper application rates and line spacing, necessitating a solid understanding of the truck's various operational systems, including air, electrical, hydraulic, and heating components.
Furthermore, you will manage a supply truck, which weighs over four tons when unloaded, to facilitate the field transfer of line paint, glass beads, solvents, and other related supplies. This role will also involve the manual handling of loaded bead pallets, paint totes, and various tools and materials, either by hand or with the assistance of a forklift or other mechanical equipment. Adherence to Department policies regarding equipment maintenance is crucial, as you will be responsible for lubrication, monitoring fluid and pressure levels, performing minor mechanical and electrical repairs, and ensuring cleanliness of the equipment. You will assist with the winter shut-down overhaul and apply routine preventive maintenance procedures to specific components of the line-painting apparatus, as well as undertake minor vehicle maintenance tasks such as oiling and greasing. Additionally, you will be tasked with making repairs to painting equipment in the shop and, when necessary, conducting field repairs to minimize downtime. Other related duties may include winter assignments in different units, which will involve all responsibilities and physical requirements associated with operating snow removal equipment.
