Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's New York City office is looking for a civil engineering intern to join our team!

It's our priority to understand our client's operating environment and infrastructure challenges so that we can navigate the site permitting and approvals process. We provide creative integrated solutions that help make challenging development projects a reality. We are there at every stage of a project - starting with a due diligence investigation, to obtaining site survey, providing conceptual to final design, permitting and providing construction administration and project closeout. We work closely with VHBers across disciplines, along with our partnering consultants to ensure that the project fulfills the needs of our client.

Position Details

    Location: New York City, NY (VHB NYC office)
  • Work model: Hybrid, with in-office presence required at least 3 days per week, generally Tuesday through Thursday
  • Term: Summer 2026, full-time (approximately 40 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
  • Assist in data mining and visualization
  • Perform analysis of data or calculations
  • Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
  • Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
  • Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word and Excel) required

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Strong interest in land development, transportation, urban design, environmental, or energy sector
  • Ability to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessary

Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19 to $30 per hour. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
