Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Pit Production and Operation Program is seeking summer intern applicants for the following:

Operations - Scope is to support Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) Program Group with Engineering, Design, Modeling, and Technical development activities. Develop conventional solutions to technical task objectives within various SRNS facility engineering organizations. Learn SRNS and specific department / facility systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Assist more senior technical personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks. Perform the following tasks relative to specific facility operations: Work directly with operations and maintenance personnel to maintain system operability. System Configuration Control to include minor design development, component replacement, facility walkdowns, drawing reviews/updates, procedure development/review/approval, preventive maintenance identification. Work package/system maintenance review and approval. Work with Design or Project Management organizations on large scale designs and projects.

Supply Chain/ Management - Support supply chain operations aligned with program requirements and facility deliverables. Develop and implement integrated supply chain strategies to ensure seamless procurement, logistics, and inventory management activities while supporting engineering, design, and technical development tasks. Learn SRNS and specific department / facility systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Gain proficiency in SRNS procurement policies, vendor relationships, and supply chain workflows to effectively accomplish assigned objectives. Collaborate with project teams, operations personnel, and external suppliers to achieve efficiency and cost-effectiveness across procurement and material handling processes.

Management Information Systems (MIS) / Operational Technology - Support the integration and maintenance of Management Information Systems (MIS) and Operational Technology (OT) to sustain facility operations and technical development projects. Assist with the technical aspects of managing enterprise information systems, as well as the configuration and upkeep of critical OT infrastructure used for industrial and facility operations. Learn SRNS and specific department / facility systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Works with hands-on experience in systems analysis, data management, and IT/OT convergence, to digitally enabled operational environments.

Finance Economics - Applies financial and economic principles to ensure the effective allocation of resources, budgeting, and cost management for engineering, design, and technical development activities. Assist in supporting SRNS financial systems processing, department processes, and facility-specific fiscal requirements while assisting senior financial personnel in carrying out tasks tied to complex projects. Learn SRNS and specific department / facility systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Integrates financial strategies with operational and program outcomes, ensuring alignment with both short-term objectives and long-term sustainability.

Engineering - Begin to plan and develop engineered solutions to technical tasks or project objectives. Begin using systems and meeting requirements with supervisory guidance. Assume technical responsibility for one or more related phases of a program. Cooperate with other engineers/scientists performing related phases of the technical work. Be cognizant of the work performed in other projects in field of technology.

The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.52 and may increase based on major and class standing.

Required Qualifications

Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Must be a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university, or within one year after finishing a degree program.

Must have completed freshman year of college.

Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
