Job Description PURPOSE

The Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment in optimal running conditions. Determine the cause of electrical, mechanical breakdowns, repair and return equipment to proper operating order in minimum time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform electrical maintenance on all equipment, Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed Perform preventive maintenance on all manufacturing equipment Assist operators when necessary.
  • Understands PLC logic Use laptop for troubleshooting Able to make modifications to existing PLC programs Write new logic to accommodate new PLC programs Working knowledge of AC/DC drive systems.
  • Manage projects through entire life cycle, able to accurately revise machine drawings using industry standard symbols and representation, develop electrical and mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assist in the maintenance of spare parts inventory, able to use machine shop tools: welder, drill press, mill, roll grinder, lathes, gas torch, etc. able to describe how components interact with each other
  • Able to identify different types of bearings and belts, understand hazards associated with all machines
  • Must be able to identify potential machinery failures and/or worn parts, must be able to "dry run" all machinery.
  • Must read and understand hydraulic and pneumatic drawings, able to troubleshoot when no hydraulic and pneumatic drawings are available able to troubleshoot when no electrical schematics are available must be able to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Assist in the completion of special projects including: equipment installation, machine and building modifications, and safety improvements, install and maintain electrical and electronics systems of the plant and equipment, layout and machine repair parts when necessary and also operate typical tools to machine parts to exacting tolerances, diagnose machine malfunctions and make required repairs and adjustments to keep machine in production.
  • Assemble, align units and machines, make sketches of parts, and maintain a safe and clean working environment, available for call-in for equipment and building maintenance problems.
  • Maintain Amcor Certified Electrical Worker status.
  • Follow all safety guidelines for lockout/tag out set forth by department, plant and Amcor
  • Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Amcor, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.

EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledgeable concerning complex electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of the practice, methods, tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and the necessary safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problems, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation and to be attentive to detail.
  • Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner.
  • Initiative and ability to work effectively with little direction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management staff.
  • Self-motivated with good problem-solving skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • AAS in Mechanical/Electrical field (preferred)
  • 2-5 Years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of electrical systems including distribution, circuits, wiring fuses, switches, and relays
  • Understanding of PLC's ladder logic, I/O, and machine control devices
  • Understanding of lubrication procedures, including the use of oil and grease
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems including belts, pulleys, gears, motors, and transmissions.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints along with sufficient understanding of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to trace problems when prints are not available.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices
  • Minimum two-to-three years technical training
  • Certification in NFPA 70E or certifiable
  • AutoCAD or E drawing knowledge
  • Ability to perform various physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, using a hoist frequently, bend, twist, squat vertically (approx. 3 hours), walk/stand on concrete surface 6-9 hours and operate in a non-climate-controlled facility.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have very good mathematical skills with abilities to use electrical measuring and gauging tools.

SAFETY

Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with AEP's guidelines including wearing PPE in designated areas. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee's safety, and adherence to policies and maintains compliance with OSHA and company housekeeping rules.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and live electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
